Whos gonna move

Team: 2020-21 Montreal Canadiens
Initial Creation Date: Mar. 24, 2021
Published: Mar. 24, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
So these trades would definitely change the face of the Habs, giving away Tatar, Danault and Mete to Buffalo who would unload Hall to the habs who need someone to lead offense. All are basically free to leave by next year, so Buffalo can re-sign Tatar, Danault and Mete if they want or get back Hall if he wants to go back to them. They also get picks to help rebuild in the process. Ottawa get a good leader in Byron, plus a 5th round pick vs giving up a 4th pick which is not much to pay for Byron's leadership. He's got 3 yrs of contract left, and they have lots of space to spare to get his type of player, while giving Ottawa a solid PK player and hometown guy.

Overall, you're not giving up your future, the other teams are getting good player to evaluate and see if they can build with them or let them go. I don't see much losses in these moves for all parties involved.
Trades
1.
BUF
  1. Danault, Phillip
  2. Mete, Victor
  3. Tatar, Tomas
  4. 2021 2nd round pick (TBL)
  5. 2021 3rd round pick (CHI)
Additional Details:
You could switch Danault with Lehkonen also...
Providing Buffalo with potential re-sign of Tatar and Danault for next year if they finish off good in their system, providing Mete as a good new Dman for the future; and offering 2nd and 3rd round picks since Hall has a high salary, but also could be lost by end of year. So I feel it could be good for both teams. Buffalo gets picks, MTL has enough picks to spare.
2.
MTL
  1. 2022 4th round pick (OTT)
OTT
  1. Byron, Paul
  2. 2021 5th round pick (PHI)
Additional Details:
Sending Byron to Ottawa, they have lots of cap space, and need someone with natural leadership talent and help support their younger players. Also a hometown guy which helps sells the team. Some may say they don't want him, but Byron is a great player, especially those penalty kills and his leadership.

You're right, the sens dont want Byron. He may be a decent player and a good leader but no one is paying you to take his bad contract off of your hands. Ottawa got a 2nd from Tampa for taking on one year at 3.5m for Paquette and Coburn. Realistically you're going to have to give up at least a 2nd as a sweetener but the fact that there's three years left on the deal means its proabbly going to have to be more than that. Or you just buy him out lol

I'd rather have Tatar + Danault than Hall for a playoffs run.

Wouldn't mind giving up another pick and including a 2nd rounder. MTL still have another one, so they can afford it and a 4th to sweeten the deal.
But one thing is that Ottawa isn't 5M$ under cap space.. They are WAY under, they need leadership, and need a good all rounder that can play defensively and offensively while support the younger players. Byron's contract is great that way, it ends in 3 yrs. Next year you may have 15M$ in contracts that are going out for Tkachuk and another player. The rest will be signed, or out the door to bring in younger players. By the time Byron's runs out, you have built those kids to top level and he leaves.. Hence my view on why it could be a good fit for Ottawa.

Living in Ottawa, I would love to see a hometown guy in that jersey. I may be a Habs fan, but would love to see it happen for him.

Sending Paul Byron to Ottawa might actually make sense. That is one place he could play out his contract as a semi-useful player.

If you go on stats alone, sure. but Hall hasn't been on a good team since forever. So of course he doesn't have super stats playroffs.. Still, he did manage 6pts ( 5 and 9 games respectively) in both times he was there, which is not bad. We're talking about NJ and Arizona.. So.. With players like Suzuki, KK , Anderson and Toffoli there, Hall will change his stats I'm sure of that.

Tatar alone has basically the same stats as Hall. Add to that Danault, who was taking match-ups against Crosby and shut him down last playoffs, the choice becomes easy. Not to mention that it forces Evans at 3C.

Understood, but Danault.. We'll either lose him for nothing, or need to sign him over the dollars he's really worth since he's a 1st/2nd liner in MTL, but elsewhere he'd be a 2nd or 3rd liner.. So he's seeing himself way higher than what he's actually worth. That's an issue in MTL, we don't have a real top liner at center, with Danault you block money to bring in someone who will need more cash to play in MTL.

So for me I'd take the chance to bring in Hall. As far as Tatar goes, again, you look at his vs Hall but Hall ain't on a team that can control the puck better for the forwards to play more offensively. So my view is that he would produce more in MTL since our D-men can launch the forwards back into the offensive zone.

We may find ourselves with a young center line, but this doesn't mean Bergevin wouldn't move someone else to bring in and give up Evans and/or Poehling with another draft choice to get that centerman we hope to one day get.. Remember, getting Hall here could potentially bring in someone that isn't inclined to come to MTL to change their minds.

Man I wish MTL fans could get it through their head that dumping Byron is going to cost.

You have to pay to dump nearly 10M in salary over 3 years.
