Why would either do this?

Los Angeles need a star prospects for defense and they have a 3 star prospects on center, Colorado have a 6 really good left defence, for Byram is really hard to go front of Girard, Toews and Graves, and there are still MacDonald and Gilbert, but the center position is not that strong behind Kadri... this deal is win win solution for everybody.

Positionally it makes a lot of sense.
Avs are deep on D and LA is deep at C.

I think the Avs say no though, but its an interesting idea.

Personally I think Byram has the higher upside, but it is an intriguing trade for sure.

Avs decline. Graves is likely gone in the expansion so it's Girard, Toews and Byram for a solid left side.

If the Avalanche wanted Turcotte they would have drafted him.. They chose Byram over him. Id much rather have Byram with Newhook starting out at the 3C

You can never have enough defense in the NHL. If they were to trade Byram it would be for a proven player and part of a bigger package like for Eichel
