Why would we trade two useful players for four guys who are almost completely useless to us?

Throwing darts at the board...I guess I missed....J. Carter usefulness is only his cheap cash salary compared to his high salary cap hit.

Take Mikheyev and Dermott out and the deal maybe goes through. Doesn't make much sense tho Leafs need a top 6 winger and they could find a better player than the ageing Jeff Carter.

Stanley Cup rings on his fingers to motivate the brats and the lackluster captain.

Top 6 fwd like Tofolli the rumored LA interest will cost a 1st Rd'er and a prospect.

DCorps still need an upgrade more so the the top 9 fwd's.

LA gets a second, Mikheyev who is one of the better penalty killers and one of the fastest straight-line skaters in the league, and you get a young Travis Dermott who could impact the blue line. Its a misconcepted trade on the Leafs behalf. You could probably toss in Kokkanen and take out the two Russians and the 4th to make that deal go through.

How is a young Travis Dermott going to make an impression when we already have Anderson, Bjornfot and Clague on that side? The only place Dermott might make an impression is in Seattle, because we couldn't protect him in the expansion draft. And Andreas Athanasiou is faster than Mikheyev and has more experience.

This trade doesn't answer a single need for Los Angeles, which is for help at RW and RD.

Included Barbie for the same reason the Leafs traded Lehtonen, he needs ice time or Dubas will lose his pipeline for more unsigned Euro/Russian UFA's.

AA also has the hockey IQ of an 11 year old. SO much talent and can't put it together. Mikheyev beat McDavid in a straight-line race to the puck few weeks back. Doesn't mean he is faster without the puck, but he has insane wheels. Mikheyev plays LW btw. Dermott plays both sides. This trade doesn't make sense I said that above, but LAK is getting value nevertheless.

We have three, count 'em three, NHL-qualified RDs and no one in the system likely for promotion. Far from being trade fodder, Roy is one of the three or four defensemen we'll protect in the expansion draft. And not one of those Toronto players is likely to displace a player at his position or, in the case of Abruzzese, make an impression in our depth chart. Aside from Byfield, Turcotte and Vilardi, Kupari, Anderson-Dolan, Madden and Thomas are all more likely to succeed in the NHL than Abruzzese.

AA may have the hockey IQ of an 11-year-old but he's smart enough to have scored 12 points (6 goals, 6 assists) in 24 games (0.5 pts/game) playing on an offensively awful team whereas Mikheyev has 10 points in 33 games (0.3 pts/game) playing on an offensively loaded team. As I said in my earlier comment, Dermott would almost certainly go to Seattle next season and while Liljegren may be NHL material, we already know that Roy is. Barabanov and the second are just stabs in the dark. Yes, LA is getting value in that trade but the amount is negligible, at least to us.

I dont mind Carter but roy and his new cap hit would be hard to fit. Despite being snake bit cant see toronto moving mikheyev. Guy works his ass off every night

I think there is going to be another trade between toronto and LA but I believe Iafallo is gonna be the guy coming for us. As for what we send thats for Dubas to show

No, he's not. Just being an RFA doesn't exempt a player from the expansion draft. That's why Engvall isn't exempt, either.
