I’d do Dermott straight up for Dzingel with retention, but Ottawa should be adding because Dzingel is a UFA and Dermott is an RFA. I also doubt Ottawa is interested in any more defencemen because of all of the blue chip prospects they have coming up - Sanderson, Bernard Docker, and Brannstrom are all lefties behind Chabot

Wouldn't cost nearly that much. Do that in a heartbeat as the Sens.

Leafs aren't giving up a NHL Dman for Dzingel. Crazy to think Rubins is NHL ready. And to add Leafs 7th Dman Liljegren and future starter. A crazy overpay.

Carolina mismanaged the asset. Ottawa has but him on full display and he’s already scored more. Don’t think it’s relevant what Carolina got for him. Pump and dump is still a pump and dump.

every piece the leafs are giving up is more valuable than dzingel who only puts up decent numbers playing top line minutes for the sens.

Dzingel has been playing 4th line with the Sens. 12 minutes vs Leafs, only over 15min 3 times, I think a forward was injured in each of those.

I never said you’d need to give that much up to get him. A second by itself would get it done 100%. What I said is that Carolina’s return is irrelevant. Staal’s return is kind of irrelevant as well. Dzingel has more goals and the same number of points while playing less games and a smaller role. Dzingel plays about 5 minutes less per game and plays in the bottom 6 while Staal has been playing top 6 with the Sabres.

Montreal is paying for Staal’s intangibles and previous play/experience more than anything. Anyone trading for Dzingel is doing so based on what he’s doing right now.

Ottawa would retain on Dzingel for Liljigren and a 3rd. Then you aren't giving up anything from your current roster and proceed to your first round elimination as planned.
