Dubas seems to be in love with Dermott for no apparent reason. Dermott's just your average number 5... he's important to the current Leafs but he's not a crazy good young defender either...

It kind of depends on what you prefer... in terms of shutdown defense, Weegar>Brodie, in terms of moving the puck, Brodie>Weegar...

But I mean value wise a number 5 d-man and a 3rd liner for a number 3 caliber d-man is a steal

The fact that Friedman made a post about the trade, doesn't mean the trade details were correct. There is no proof that Dubas turned down the proposal as you say.

Given what Dubas traded Johnsson for only a short while later, I STILL don't believe that Florida made this offer or that Dubas turned it down.

With Weegar acquired and signed, Dubas would have made any adjustment necessary (including trading Kerfoot) to round out the squad. Imagine the Maple Leafs with Weegar instead of Bogosian.
