It'll cost 300k on a buyout on Deangelo.. Rangers not taking on 2.4m of cap. Think about it. Just sign him after we buy him out.

Not close for Buffalo, clearly not a player they could afford to give up

What's Buffalo's selling point to Ullmark to extend this close to testing free agency out (especially if they sell other pieces)?

Lol he's a pending UFA who injured on the league's worst team. Is there something I am missing? Why do the leafs want to do that trade is a better question.

Dude. Deangelo is not the answer, he would become the problem.
Wait till we see a few more games of Campbell. He's been great in these first couple games. No need to overpay for a goalie when you might have a good one.
The leafs are first in the division. Nothing more needs to be said.

Love hearing your opinion though, keep it up.

Hes the Sabres starting goalie, he played today, and the Sabres want to keep him - they also dont want Tokarski to finish as their #1 for the year

I mean, they are the leagues worst team. Why do they need to hold on to valuable assets unlikely to resign?

Why would he sign a new contract in Buffalo when Colorado beckons? And maybe Carolina, and maybe even Philadelphia?

It was one thing for Columbus to hold onto pending FAs when they were trying to get into the playoffs, but a team like Buffalo? Even if he's in love with the city and wants to come back, get something and sign him July 01.

    Lots of “maybes” there
Buffalo is more of a certainty
    Also $$$

But if we’re trying to sign him & he says he wants to test free agency- THEN- sure, we’d trade him

    $$$, term, job security?
I didn’t say he’s definitely gonna sign here,
    just that we’ll try

And it’s not like Ullmark is “great” by any means
He’s unproven as a starter & gets hurt every year
Probably just an average goalie at best, so i doubt too many teams will giftwrap him the starter’s job like we have

Not bashing Buffalo, Toronto couldn't draw a FA for years. The Sabres just aren't a desirable team at the moment, at least I wouldn't think. I personally thought Ullmark would have quite a market come July 01, but he may indeed prefer to extend for the reasons you listed. As he said he wouldn't negotiate during the season? Do you know why an extension hasn't been worked out?

Buffalo’s front office situation has been a mess this year
They basically fired everyone & decided to go with a combo of Adams as new GM and our coach Ralph Kruger as the decision makers- with our coach actually taking the lead as far as what players he wanted here.
But things went to hell so quickly for us this season, that it became apparent Kruger was gonna be fired at some point.
So with the leading decision maker headed out the door, pretty much all talk of extensions got out on hold for upcoming UFAs & hasn’t really been addressed yet.
Buffalo is expected to hire an AsstGM any day now though,
and then those extension talks should heat up- as well as trades for those we aren’t extending.

To sum it all up in a nutshell, we were just a disaster this season.

Maybe Ullmark won’t wanna come back?
He hasn’t indicated one way or the other to my knowledge.
And i do think there will be some teams interested in him, but in more of a 1a/1b type situation- bc like i said before- he’s not “proven” to be a “good” starter (he’s just “decent”) and he’s hurt a lot

But i guess we’ll see how it all plays out

But it's not like it's random garbage like Galchnuk and a 5th or something. It's Dermott and a second. Both of these are good things for Buffalo, and if I was adams I would trade Ullmark for either of them.

I’d only consider it IF Ullmark won’t resign
    And a late 2nd isn’t a “good” thing
Also not a fan of Dermott

Whatever you say. But you can not possibly deny that the above package is about twice as much as market value for Ullmark.
