Pierre Engvall is developing into a good 3C, why change that... a 3C making 1.25M seems pretty great for a cap strapped team like Toronto.

Since McCabe is on LTIR, certainly a bad trade for the Leafs....and even if was fit, it's a questionable trade.
Leafs can't afford 6.5m for Gibson next season. Leafs will find another competent goalie next season and keep their two best forward prospects.

Why are they giving out goalies for free?

That's a ridiculous question. You can't just pick any goalie. The best goalies are not available, cost to much in cap or would cost way too much to acquire. The reasonable question is, who would you want above Jack out of everyone who is available? And then balance that against the cost to acquire. The list is short and with every win, the need lessens. So who would the Leaf be smart to pick up for the net if Campbell remains good and Andersen returns healthy and closer to normal? Balancing that against the cost to acquire makes the need to spend assets for a goalie rather pointless and very wasteful.

Neither of these responses actually answer the question. I'm not suggesting Gibson is a need. I asked very clearly...where do you rank Jack among all goalies in the NHL. Are you telling me HE is who want to lead you into the playoffs?

As a side, I actually very much agree with the overall approach Dubas has and likely will be taking next year. Look at all 9 (i think off the top if my head) rookie goalies and how well they're playing. Don't overpay for a goalie, but thats a different question entirely. Is Jack who you WANT leading the Leafs into the playoffs?

I'm fine with whichever of Andersen or Campbell earn the starting job for the playoffs. The days of a star goalie being ridden to a cup is long past. You need a couple of wins from your goalie and they just can't be the reason you lose. I think Campbell can be that. Like did anyone think Biddington was going to be the guy to lead a team to the cup? Or Murray? Why can't Campbell who looks terrific and was a highly touted pick once upon a time, not be the guy? Where do I rack Jack? He's a good goalie and is on a good team. Sounds like it could win.

I like. Friedman. But is he an insider? I would prefer that fans express their own opinion instead of quoting talking heads. Besides why would someone in Leaf management play their hand at TDL by talking to a reporter about the Leafs strategy? IMO Friedman never heard anything of Leafs management about wanting/or not wanting another goalie. It was his own analysis.

Right now he is the one I want to lead them in the playoffs. If Freddy is playing better than he would be the one. If they dig up Johnny Bower and he has the hot zombie hand then throw him in there.

Because he isn't a source just a guy speculating. Insiders break stories, Friedman doesn't do that, or very rarely does. Like Eklund.
