Description
This trade is my honest opinion on a possible trade to acquire Ekholm. It has been reported that NSH wants a 1st, a top prospect and a 3rd asset to be determined. Ok so a lot of you guys (NSH fan) probably don't know who is Norlinder. So here is a quick summary. The guy was drafted in 3rd round in 2019. He made last season Team Sweden at 19 years old. (Yeah the guy isn't late he was an overaged). He was meant to be like the 7th dman for Team Sweden and ended up in the top 4 playing all the games. Last year with Modo he was on the first pair playing 20+ min per game at 19. This year? He's in Frolunda on the top 4 in SHL this time... Before saying this is not enough for Ekholm or ohhhhhh lol MTL fans again thinking they can get everything and bid less than let's say TOR would have to.... Trust me Norlinder is our best dman prospect by far (Not considering Romanov). Some in Sweden even compare him to Lidstrom and Hedman... Ok listen I'm not saying he will end up like them not at all but not everybody can be compared to these guys... NSH will want to be competitive again in 2 years or so and Norlinder will only come to NA in 2 years (He said that he will honour is contract with Frolunda before). So they wanted 3 assets so you got your top prospect and your 1st. You could then argue on the 3rd piece but MTL will have to move a contract. I added Byron because he makes the most sense but you could argue and maybe add a guy like Lekhonen instead or even Armia but he's an UFA so Lekhy and Ti-Paul are more likely to be moved instead. There will have to be retention or something like another deal for MTL because this won't do it with now Staal in the lineup. This is a fair deal and I think tbh if NSH would have receive this offer it would have been a done deal. Norlinder is the top prize here in a trade with MTL given out that we have like 1000 LHD prospects in our pipes. Caufield is untouchable (let's be real).... Leave your thoughts in the comments below !! Also what are your thoughts on these lines?

Byron is a negative value in the trade, don’t think NSH really even spends a lot of time considering it.

NSH doesnt need another undersized D prospect; they have four NHL ready prospects who are 5'10-6'0 offensive defensemen. They need more elite forward prospects

However they are 2 points back, with most of their remaining games against DET/CHI/DAL. Can't see them trading Ekholm

Imo there is no way you get an elite forward prospect for Ekholm. I've watched his a lot this year and yes he is decent but I don't see a team paying a first, a top prospect and a third piece. I don't see Nashville trading a D after it seems like they are going to make a push for the playoffs now. And maybe they trade someone before the expansion draft though.

Preds decline.

1st/Norlinder/3rd might not get it done as is, if you are adding Byron that 3rd better get bumped up significantly.

Change Byron to Lehkonen and remove the retention on Ekholm, maybe add another mid to late pick from Montreal and it's close maybe idk.

Norilander is a fine prospect but really shouldn’t be a target for Nashville. Our defense pipeline is pretty decent. We need forward prospects with high upside. Norilander and the picks might be decent value for Nashville but Byrons bad contract would require something additional of value. Even then I wouldn’t want a defenseman as the centerpiece coming back in an Ekholm trade

I think Nashville has to think a little more realistically here. Some people are saying a 1st and Caufield but that would make this trade awful for Montreal. Ekholm's value in my mind is at the level of a 1st, an A-/B+ level prospect, and another pick. My offer would be 2021 1st, Jesse Ylonen, and a 3rd because it makes sense for both teams, Ylonen is an excellent prospect with skyrocketing value, a 1st from the Canadiens is a nice addition to Nashville's prospect pool, the 3rd is just a sweetener who could turn out to be a steal. If Montreal chooses to add Byron for cap reasons, a 2nd or 3rd should be added to the original offer. Things to remember for Nashville fans, you're not getting Caufield or Romanov or Suzuki or KK for Ekholm. I just want to state that I am against the idea of Montreal trading for Ekholm because I don't think he fits into our timeline and helps build towards our window.

Lines wise, I like Perry playing up. He might be able to use the experience he's gained over the years and rejuvenate his past skillset.
