Description
Carolina

A) is looking for a RHD similar to Travis Hamonic

B) is looking to trade a goalie

C) is not interested in rentals.

Scott Mayfield fits this mold perfectly imo; he has term, is very affordable, is a physical, defensive minded defenseman and is probably best suited for a bottom pair that isn't going to have to be responsible for contributing to offense. Think he would fit Carolina really well, where they can give him a lesser role, but he can still contribute and play more to his strengths. I really don't care that we'll have to see him 4+ times again next season.

Meanwhile, the Islanders would get Reimer and then flip him to St. Louis for Zach Sanford. Not sure how STL fans feel about Sanford but I do know some have expressed interest in getting another goalie, so getting Reimer would accomplish that. I'd be okay with getting a pick or two instead, but getting a roster player back would be preferable.

And then Hall trade obviously, probably won't cost that much but if we want to rid ourselves of Leo, we'll have to give up a bit extra. Davidson is included as defensive depth with Mayfield gone

How is Sorokin doing? I was thinking that we could do a Semyon Varlamov for Mikko Koskinen trade, in the off season. We would have to add a bit, but I would like to see us get Varlamov,

He's so inconsistent. Looked like a Vezina candidate on Monday against the Flyers and then allowed 4 goals on 9 shots yesterday against the Penguins. I have no interest in seeing Varlamov traded until we know Sorokin is the guy and I don't think we're going to be at that point by the end of the season. So you'd be waiting at least one more season on Varlamov, if it were up to me.

Okay, makes sense. That sucks that he’s inconsistent. It’s good that he is the backup right now so he doesn’t get rushed! He should definitely stay there then.

If the playoffs started today I would obviously want varlamov in net , but I think sorokin has been solid over the last month. There are going to be growing pains but I’d be fine with trading varlamov this summer and signing anderson/bernier for cheap and let korn work his magic

It's typical rookie growing pains, no cause for concern really. Just not sure I'd feel comfortable giving him the net yet and that's perfectly fine.

Idk I'm just not sold yet. Sorokin's got some time to convince me, but I'd rather play it safe, keep Varly another year and look for other ways to shed cap.

I’m all for moving bailey instead of varlamov , but no one will want him and I don’t think Lou is creative enough to get rid of him.
