Dahlin part two

Created by: Leafsfaninvancity
Team: 2021-22 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: Mar. 28, 2021
Published: Mar. 28, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
I think this trade is fair for Dahlin, a first line forward, great d prospect in Sandin, 1st round pick, and top 9 forward. Leafs protect Matthews, Marner, Tavares, Rielly, Brodie, Muzzin, Holl, Dahlin, Campbell. UFA's signed after expansion draft. Landeskog replaces Nylander's offence, and they've still got Robertson and Amirov as great forward prospects with good upside. Leafs have an elite d core, Campbell gets the opportunity to start, predicated that he has a strong playoff run if he's the starter. Bottom 6 forwards is a little weak. Slight adjustments in salary get this team under the cap. Muzzin helps Dahlin reestablish his game and Holl is a great stay at home dman for Liljegren.

You could argue that it’s too much. He’s been arguably the worst defenseman in the league this year- is it because of Kruger? I don’t know. But he’s been lousy. Just hope Buffalo didn’t break him

Surprisingly decent offer. I say surprising because usually trades like this are underpays.

Still I don't think it works for either team.
Landeskog is gonna re-sign with Avs

He's had a great first two years; very few dmen play in the NHL at 18, let alone put up his numbers. He's not the next Hedman or Lidstrom, but he's elite having a bad year. You could make the same argument for Eichel.

Yeah having Landeskog is pretty much a dream right now. It would be a sick top line though

Probably a good offer I just highly doubt Adams is interested in trading Dahlin at this point especially to a divisional rival. He’s only 20 and though I’m highly critical of the player I try to remember that point often.

Analytically he’s been a lot better under the 5 games of getting coached by Dan Girardi. He needs to get more confidence in the defensive zone though. His puck movement has always been amazing.

Eichel was playing very well, just had absurdly bad puck luck. Dahlins still a good player, I never said he wasn’t, I’m just saying he’s been horrific this year and that’s a lot to give up

Girardi’s the man for the job- guy was a shot blocking machine and was as defensively responsible as they come.

They really need to find a reliable stay at home RD for him too. David Savard would be perfect.

Yeah that would help. Get a veteran guy who can take him under his wing and play hard defensive minutes

I quite like it acutally. If only we could get ullmark instead of Halak. I mean it's all fantasy cuz I think dahlin and ullmark and Cozens is what buffalo should just keep

That's probably the biggest over-payment I've ever seen.

The fact that he's only earned $4,000,000 kinda proves he's not worth it no?

And he's been terrible this whole year.

Swapping Nylander alone for Dahlin literally makes Toronto worse right now.

May as well add a 1st + 1st + 2nd to the deal.

Buffalo finds a way to diminish the talent of hockey players, the list is long

One year doesn't make a player, he's 20 years old. The whole Buffalo team is bad, his upside is huge. He's got a big frame, great shot, great vision, exceptional skating ability, but needs to get a little stronger. The previous year he put up 40 points in 59 games as a 19 year old dman. And Landeskog will replace Nylander's offence anyways and is a more complete player. The views on Dahlin seem to be really polarizing, but I see him being better than Reilly.

Not that this trade would happen for the reason you mentioned (division rivals) but isn't that a two-way street? I don't think the leafs would want to trade Nylander or Sandin in division either. That being said I think the value is good and this deal benefits both teams. Good job to the OP.

I can't see these two teams making a trade of this magnitude being division rivals and all, but it's good value and very well thought out. Good job, very creative ACGM.

That still doesn't change the fact that right now Toronto is better with Nylander vs Dahlin. And I think they're trying to win this year.

And yeah Landeskog is a good Nylander replacement but there's no need to make a terrible trade involving Nylander + Sandin + 1st.

Heiskanen + Maker + Fox are all better players than Dahlin at the moment, and there's an argument for Hughes as well.

This trade would be done in the offseason. I like Nylander too but you have to give to get. Dahlin isn't as good as Heiskanen or Maker, but those teams aren't dealing those players. I think Buffalo would listen to offers on Dahlin, especially if he wants out. Toronto's defence has been an issue for about 5 years now (as a playoff team), and a top 6 that's listed above is about as good as it gets. Besides a trade for an Ekholm which is what alot of Leafs fans want would cost a 1st, Sandin, and a great roster/high prospect anyways, and Dahlin is better than Ekholm.
