And why exactly would Montreal want this?

Cap space. Galchenyuk is gonna need a contract so will radulov. Neither are gonna sign for peanuts. That's my guess. Don't like either player though. Pou lives up to his handle and Pleky is past his expiry as a top 6 forward in my opinion.

I put it in my description. 2mil next year and they klget someone with more size and can potentially push for a top 6. Oilers get a over paid 3rd Line guy for a year. Again is saving 2 million now to keep pushing for a cup for the Canadians and Oilers get OK vet and then cap space for Mcdavid resigning year

My thoughts were Oilers get their 3rd line guy albeit it's very over paid player but it fills a need for them

Cap space? OK but then you have him for another 2 years after Pleky's is up. Makes no sense.

How does that make any sense?

Ok so the Habs get a overpaid 3/4 liner for 3 years? You do realize Chucky and Radulov are going to need contracts, as well as (not sure but I think) Price.

That help the Habs this year, but not down the road. Not at all.

It's only an extra year. So when prices contract ends so will Pouliot. It terms of radulov and Chucky that 2million in savings plus 5.75 from Markov should be good to sign these guys

I think Montreal could dump that contract after the expansion draft by eating 2M for a mid round pick and save themselves a year. And what if they resign Markov?

For the Habs trade, the cap saving isn't enough for the extra year. If this trade happened at the deadline, Montreal would have to spend more money than Edm would over the remaining term of the contract. I did the math and Edm would have to retain about half a million on the deal for it to be equal salary going both ways. Now we haven't even got to the point that Plekanec is , even though way over paid, a solid defensive centerman and consummate professional. Pouliot is a decent 3rd liner but his character and injury history don't make this trade worth doing for the Habs. They'll have their money to resign Galchenyuk, Radulov and Price. They need to let go of the players over the next couple years though like Desharnais, Markov, Emelin and Plekanec and they'll be alright.

Exactly, no point of making the trade for the short-term.
