Why would anyone trade that for Nuge when he is a UFA? Nuge, a cap dump, a 3rd pairing D and a 2nd...not close IMO

Yah, but I feel like if we don’t sign him then we shouldn’t trade him for Domi. It’s practically Koskinen, Jones, and a second for Merzlikins (which is probably fair), and then that leaves Nuge for Domi.

CLB needs a top 6 center. Have a look what teams have given up for a chance to sign a UFA before free agency. Jones is going to a number 3-4 D especially playing with his brother. Koskinen is a solid back-up with consistent playing time, but our coach loves Smith so he is the starter. The second is just a top off for Koskinen.

CBJ needs a top 6C that isn't going to bolt in 2 months to free agency. And don't try and blow smoke up my a$$ by saying Koskinen is any good. You would all trade him for a bag of pucks.

Detroit trade breaks down to...

To DET: Neal + 1st
To EDM: FC

To DET: 4th
To EDM: Staal

The Staal trade is fair value, maybe slightly undervaluing Staal but you didn't ask for retention so I'll take it. However, 2 years of Neal for a playoff team's 1st is not a good deal.

Nope i wouldnt, he makes too much but he is better than at least 50% of the goalies playing in the NHL.

A first is a first for a team with lots of cap space they would take it.

Opinion vs opinion; I don't think they would. Marc Staal cost NYR a non-playoff 2nd (likely 30-something overall pick) for 1 yr at $5.7M. Neal is 2 yrs (plus the rest of this year) at $5.75M, and ties our hands a bit if we want to sign a splashy 2C or Dman in FA. You're trying to move him for a late 20-something overall pick. I think it costs more to move that contract.

There are 31 teams the NYR 2nd pick will be 38-40 EDM First will be 25. Yzerman is very good at drafting players i bet he makes that deal.

Very true.

Not true. Koskinen has been very good for Edmonton over the past 1.5 seasons. The only stretch he wasn't good for was the first 12 games this season, when he was forced to play every game with no rest or practice time. Other than that, he's been strong.
