I would not do that, just get an expiring RD so we don't have to pay as much
Ekblad will be back for next season likely

Why. Denisenko is a top 25 prospect in the nhl. Severson ain’t that great

I personally don’t like this, we have too many expiring contracts on the blue line to trade one who’s locked up.

Severson is Devils best d-man.
On good contract.
Leader on team.
We have plenty of forward prospects.
Need d-men.
And the return is lousy.

No thanks. Severson has been our best dman. After drafting Holtz and Mercer, no need for Denisenko

Send 'em Subban, Kulikov, Butcher, Murray, Tennyson, Carrick, Vatanen
Anyone but Severson and Smith.

Makes sense for that reason. But I’d say the value is at least there.

We'd be trading from weakness.
We have a number of other d-man that probably make more sense for Florida.
Murray, Kulikov and Vatanen are cheap rentals.
Butcher is probably good buy-low with term.
Rest are probably harder sells.

Smith has been our best dman.

Even if you want to argue that, it's not all that meaningful. Devils defence core is pretty much as weak as it gets. no need for a highly touted RW goal scoring prospect? Holtz is one guy and Mercer isn't likely to be a huge offensive force at the next level, more of a two-way winger that plays all situations.

Not an impressive statement whatsoever.

How would you know that? He wears an A because he's been there a long time and doesn't completely suck.

Holtz and Mercer are the only two high end forward prospects we have, adding another one is a good idea considering how offensively inept the Devils are.

Clearly you have no idea who Denisenko is

Their lack of scoring is just as big a weakness as their blue line. Agree that one of those guys probably makes more sense for them

Without Severson our right side is looking pretty bad. Walsh and Mccarthy are the only two notable prospects at RHD. We need defense more than another RW prospect. Future top 6
Foote-Hughes-Mercer
Bratt-Nico-Holtz
No room for Denisenko

I know who Denisenko is
I'm not trading a top-pair d-man for him

Mercer, Holtz, Hughes, Hischier, Foote, Bratt, Sharangovich, Zacha...and potentially Thompson, Gritsyuk, Clarke, McLeod, Bastian.
Our young forward core is set.
D-men are needed.

Wings are a dime a dozen in this league.
Top-6 centers and top-4 d-men much harder to acquire.
Always wings available at TDL or in free agency.

You're assuming Foote and Mercer turn out to be 1st liners and Bratt as a 2nd liner... lol. Thats like me saying the Devils are set on defence because Okhotyuk and Walsh will be surefire top 4 guys.

Saying the team has no room for Denisenko is asinine.

Also fwiw think Brandt Clarke (RD) will be NJ's main target at the draft this year.

I guess we disagree on what a top pair defenceman is then. Severson is a turnover machine, would be a 3 or 4 on a cup contender. I don't think the forward core is good enough but apparently I'm in the minority there.

When's the last time NJ brought in a high end free agent?

Foote looks really good in the AHL and Mercer looks great in the Q. Obviously you can't confirm they will be top 6 players but you can assume it.

Clarke is the only good RHD in the draft. Powers, Hughes, Edvinsson are the good LHD. The chances that Clarke falls to us are slim. Better off settling with a LHD
