Strome or Buchnevich after 2021-22

Created by: Shakabakes
Team: 2020-21 New York Rangers
Initial Creation Date: Mar. 29, 2021
Published: Mar. 29, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Given the impending Cap crunch, the Rangers will likely be able to retain only one of Buchnevich or Strome for the Long Term.

Buchnevich is arguably the better of the 2. He has picked his game up on both ends of the ice, and has been one of the most consistent Offensive forces this Season. Also a bit younger.

On the other hand, he plays on the Wing, which is a position where the Rangers have a multitude of younger players coming up the pipeline. With the lack of Center Depth the Rangers have after Zibenejad (and perhaps some still skeptical of Chytil as a future C), it could make more sense to lock up the greater position of need. Strome has had a wonderful Season on his own, and has silenced the "Only Good with Bread" naysayers.

Top early to tell rn. I’m sure they’d prefer to keep buch, but it’ll hinge on if eichel is moved or not this summer. If not, it’ll depend on what they can get center wise in free agency if Strome is moved.

too hard to tell today...
If Chytil proves to be a 2C, then Stome.
If Kakko and Kravtsov pan out as top 6 RW's, then Buch.

In theory, potentially both.

Keep both until someone is displaced by a better player.

Strome and Buchnevich are finally reaching their potential, while entering their prime years. Why are you moving them to make room or 3pt Kakko, no NHL Kravtsov, or Lafrenwhere?

Also... why not just ride it out and sell high? Specifically on Strome? He's absolutely reached his potential and its probably not getting any higher. Rangers are in a great position to have a bidding war over a guy that was spare parts

Strome enters a Contract year next Season. If your thought process is to "sell high", then you're basically stating to trade Strome by that Deadline and not resign him.

Which I guess makes you a Buch guy.

Strome is entering a Contract year. Unless they are confident in Chytil, there is no other C below him currently to replace him. They would have to make a decision on his future, regardless.

The young Wings are still working their way up. While they may be struggling now, I believe the Front Office is of the mindset they will improve.

You are correct!

But thats also because it took Strome playing with Panarin to find his game. Buchie was coached and progressed & been through the motions here; he has easily shown he's more consistent. At the end of the day.. Buch AND Strome could both be moved, depending on how Chytil/Krav/Kakko pan out.

At the moment though I'm picking Buch, every season his point production/corsi/TOI all go up steadily; Strome has peaks and troths. (which is also why I said sell high because I'm nervous for his next troth; especially if it comes after singing a 6mill x 5 year contract)
