You should have kept Bear, not signed Barrie to term and not traded for Kerfoot (who isn't a 1LW solution).

The things that would make kerfoot good on the wing are the same reasons Patrick Maroon did well there. He’s a hound for the puck and has a gift for getting goals in tight. He’s also fast and scores greasy garbage goals. The way Toronto uses him doesn’t play to his strengths. In Colorado he played wing and was a good forechecker as well as a goalscorer. If bear is what you think he is he will have a 4.5 million dollar salary by this point so he’s not much help anyways.

Kerfoot is a bottom-6 guy. Your description also fits Archibald and a few others that have had moderate success with McDavid - they aren't $3.5M and they aren't permanent solutions though.
