Quoting: Ritzy
Think it is a bit of a stretch for Sandin. I think it was you who posted another Leafs/Philly thread that included Laughton. Think the deal was a 2nd and 3rd for Laughton? That's likely what the deal would end up being.
If there is retention, I'm game.
It really isn't to be honest with you. MON just paid a 3rd and 5th for Staal with retention. Laughton is much younger and provides the type of play that the Leafs need right now. We have a few wing prospects in the pipeline so I am not over concerned with SDA being moved. Maybe make it SDA and a 2022 3rd, but we are nickel and diming at this point.
Youre right on alot of levels. And yes I think Laughton gets a 2nd and a 3rd as a trade deadline rental. Without going insane, thats a pretty meh deal as the picks are low. I think retention is always worth something, so my initial idea of Laughton being worth a 2nd and 3rd becaomes bigger, if the picks are a year away or retention is added.
Oh yeah, Sandin is an Leaf overpayment, but it comes down to how close the team thinks it is, what it needs and whatever prospect they think has value but ultimately not in Toronto.
I think I started with Laughton for a 2nd and 3rd in the 2022 draft, which based on where the leafs should finish and it being a yr away is a pretty weak TOR offer. Adding retention on PHIs side might be needed, but its almost an insult on the weak offer, so something else has to give. ( SDA and a 2021 2nd, as I said probably pretty close, but I just dont see SDA as all that good or something PHI lacks.)
As for Staal, hes ancient, slow, one dimensional and playing pretty poorly at the moment, I think its a pretty weak deal for MTL and BUF.
