I think PHI will need to retain half of Ghost salary in order to make MTL accept that. Byron will help PHI by his leadership than Ghost will help MTL with lack of defense

That's just one trade, I didn't do any other subsequent moves that would happen such as a Lehkonen trade that is currently rumoured.

This year, Gostisbehere has been more impactful than Byron by quite a lot. The Canadiens need mobility on the blueline more than defense right now.

It doesn't change the fact that his contract is very bad

Remember when people were asking Drouin + 1st round pick for Ghost?

I don’t, and I'd take Butler or Dunn over Ghost.

Byron - xGAR : -2.3 xWAR : -0.4 xSPAR : -0.7
Gostisbehere - xGAR : 5.3 xWAR : 0.9 xSPAR : 1.7

Sure worth the 1m$ difference.

As for, "Butler" and Dunn, you don't get the opportunity to acquire them 1-for-1 for Byron.

Actually we wouldn't, Chiarot can go on LTIR as he is expected to miss 30 days or 10 + games, saving 3.5 Mil of the cap + Byron's 3.4 Mil gone opens up 6.9 Mil + we had 1.7 Mil deadline cap when everyone was healthy so total we have available is 8.6 Mil losing Ghost's 4.5 Mil means we can even add Hall if we so desired.

I don't think Ghost will pass through waivers but even if he does my expectation is that they were thinking about a mutual termination. Maybe then the Habs can afford to swoop in and sign him lol.

What tells you he'll be bought out? He has legit stats, and is slightly overpaid, but nothing buyout-worthy.

What is the one thing the Habs D needs? a Top 4 PM LHD, We could spend assets on acquiring a better one for sure but how often does exactly what you need fall into your lap for free? Besides that he could potentially turn out to be our next Byron LOL.

He is waiver worthy on a team with bad defence.

He sucks and it's not news to anyone.

And Byron isn't waiver worthy?

He was put on waivers because, as you said, they have bad defense, which is far from being Montreal's problem (2nd in GA/60 after Tampa). Gostisbehere is an offensive defenseman, moves the puck, can play on both sides. Voilà. Doesn't matter if he has flaws in his offensive game when you've got guys like Edmundson to pair him with, still brings more on the table than a below replacement level Paul Byron.

Seems like you're too entitled to your opinion to acknowledge actual facts.

He could play with Hedman and still be a bad defenceman. Here's a fact for you: Gost is a 7th defenceman signed for 4.5M for the next to years. Solid pass.

By that logic Paul Byron is a 14th forward signed for 3.4m for the next two years. I like Byron, but man it's time to move on.
