I think Podkolzin on an ELC is more valuable plus he's the power forward they haven't really had since Bertuzzi. Laine also has a QO of 7.5 mil so you can't give him 6 unless you let him enter FA

i dont think any team pays 7.5, so yes i assumed we still just got him signed. But there is a chance that a detroit or someone pays more

Doesn’t matter if no one is willing to pay 7.5. He literally has to be qualified at that amount or he becomes a free agent. So you’d have to give him 7.5.

You don't have to pay them their above QO, especially on a multi-year deal. Players agree to less all the time (but those are usually bubble players) But a 2 year Laine contract walks him directly to UFA to it makes zero sense for the Canucks to do it.

I don't understand the Laine trade. You send us one guy who can't play, a KHL prospect and a first rounder. Plus you wanted a third rounder from us. Do you know how this thing works?

Sorry Canuck fans, Ericcson's Holtby's and Beagle's cap just can't be wished away.

This is a terrible trade. A guy who can't play, a KHL player, and a 1st rounder...........then we give them a 3rd rounder. Remember we gave up a 1C PLD.

I just noticed it was the 2022 first instead of the 2021, which changes things. Also "a KHL player" is a funny way to describe a dominant prospect.

I'm a CBJ fan KHL players come here and stay here 5% of the time.

Yes I'm a cbj fan too. Too bad that wouldn't be an issue for 7 years.

Grigerenko and Gavrikov say hi. Also don't forget Bob chose to stay here until he was 30.

Sure but Bob and Grigerenko were almost out of a job at one point. We've had more problems than I'd like. I can't say I'm happy with last years draft pick. I just see it as a risk. This is not a good trade. 1 unknown prospect and a 1st rounder for a elite goal scorer is not a good trade.

hindsight doesnt mean anything. Laine hasn't performed under Torts, and at this point, it's not looking like the deal will work out. Cut your losses, take a player that will work hard under torts (podkolzin), and hope that the canucks suck again next year and get a top 15 pick

elite goalscorer who hasn't proved anything under the CBJ system. Don't think he works out there in the long-run

I never said they had to pay him above his QO. But unless they want to let him walk as a FA they'll have to qualify him no? Laine isn't taking under 7 million guaranteed. After an abysmal season with the jets he asked for 8.5m on a short team deal lol. Expect him to do the same, or ask for 9-9.5m on a long term deal. Either way, it looks as if they'll have to qualify him, and sign him during FA. Laine has shown that he is okay with sitting out before, he'll do it again.

Huh? Or make a better trade or don't rehire Torts. How do you know Podkolzin will work harder? Why take all these risks? Laine is a 40 goal scorer who is 22 years old. He's a RFA. We don't have to cut any losses we just need to make the right deal. Not just give him away.

That's because they are trying to turn him into a 200 foot player. He also doesn't have a center to play with. That is the major issue.
