I don't think that Carolina will do this, but the word is that Waddell wants a RHD. Maybe there's a package here that could work for both teams.

Not until after the expansion draft I reckon.

Agreed. My assumption is that if Carolina is goes for a RD, it's probably more of a depth move than something like this. Next season would depend on whether they can convince Dougie to sign or not.

This year Carolina is in need of a 3rd pair RD. Dumba would be overkill for that role, and at the cost of center depth I don't see this happening

Yeah this doesn’t make a much sense for Carolina player wise but value is definitely good.

Value is off. Trocheck is a PPG with term left. Dumba is a 2nd pairing defenseman, and he would be 3rd pair in Carolina. There would HAVE to be a major kicker.

Rumour is Carolina want to move Reimer for a 3rd pairing RHD. NOT someone like Trocheck.

My thinking was that they weren't sure what was happening with Hamilton and therefore might be looking for a D1/2 RHD.

I agree my value may be off here. Dumba isn't the guy he was before the injury two years ago, but I also figured that Trocheck isn't the 25 goals/yr guy he used to be.

Value isn't that far off, you're just trying to buy at Trochek's absolute peak, andsell at Dumba's low end. Dumba would absolutely be a 40-50 point RD if he was being used how he should be (most specifically on the PP), and Trochek is having a career year. Value would be similar, but Trochek has one less year on his contract. Any deal from the Wild's perspective would need to be after they can pre-negotiate an extension.

IMO it doesn't work because MIN would want to do the deal before the Seattle's draft to go 7-3 without loosing Dumba, but CAR would want to do it after the draft because they already need to protect Slavin, Pesce and Bean...

Look at Trocheck this year, his numbers are borderline ridiculous. He's been one incredible, and was probably Carolina's standout player through the first half of the season

So would that have to be in the off-season? Can't you only pre-negotiate when there's one year left?

Yeah, it has to be with one year left, so for Trochek it would be after July 1, 2021

You can negotiate whenever you want (OEL) with your own players, but it can't be put in writing until a player is in their last year of their contract.
