Theres little value there for the Leafs. Not a chance they do that Canucks trade. Trading a prospect, a 2nd and a player who at times has filled that top 6 roll for a 7th defenseman and a lateral move forward, with less term, who could be had for a mid round pick alone.

I think Pearson is a good upgrade on kerfoot. This move shores up the depth Defense and gives a really good top line left winger with size. Kerfoot could be moved to Chicago Sodaberg instead..

Pearson has been scoring at a worse rate than Kerfoot this season and there isn't reason to think he will do better after being injured. Pearson had one good season and has fallen back to his usual norm again. A good comparable for him from last deadline is Nick Cousins. Similar production, usage and was recovering from an injury too. He got a 4th round pick and had a much lower cap hit. Kerfoot is actually the more valuable forward right now with the term remaining on his contract, Pearson just doesn't add up. You could get both Benn and Pearson for the 2nd alone.
