A Leaf trade without Kerfoot

Created by: Faulk_my_Dzingel
Team: 2020-21 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: Apr. 1, 2021
Published: Apr. 1, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Hypothetically what if Andersen is done for the season? That frees up some cap space.
Korp hasn't had the greatest year. A couple good games in March. A tandem of him and Campbell seems quite reasonable. I stand by my regular statements that Jenner is the missing piece.

Is this enough to get it done? Sorry if I offend the Robertson is the next Ovechkin lovers. At this point he needs a lot of work. He may also be the next Bracco. I'm willing to take that risk for a potential cup win.

You could even sweeten the deal by adding Alex Kerfoot.

No chance he is the next Ovi! But NO CHANCE THE LEAFS TRADE HIM.

Robertson’s got a fascinating, unique skill set. His curl and drag release comes off his blade heavy and can cleanly beat goalies from mid-range. He’s got superb hands and footwork, helping him spin off checks, fearless in puck pursuit, and he doesn’t back down from board battles. Robertson’s got clear top-six and power play upside.

He is going nowhere

So you've got an obvious Robertson bias. Did you form your entire opinion based off of 4 NHL games?

There really isn't any point in discussing the merits of this deal.

It's obviously an overpay, but if you think Robertson is Bracco, then how would anyone change your mind? So it's really a pointless discussion.

I wouldn't say I have a Robertson bias. I would say I have a proven player and win now bias. And you clearly misread my description.

I'm harsh on the leafs more often than not but man that trade is actually really decent. Getting a real goalie and a good 3rd center for, yeah a big price, but I mean you have to give to receive. I mean the leafs need some actual decent players to play on their 3rd line so yeah

I agree Robertson is going no where. But given market value I don’t think this trade is terrible. Nice change from the usual.

Not the best Ovechkin, but he's exactly what Brad Marchand is. & that's what the Leafs need, a scorer that can chirp and agitate to get the other team off guard. He won't go anywhere unless Toronto management is blown away, this is nothing of that.

A guy who would have been a top 10 pick had he been born a few days later and a 1st for a goalie who yourself admits hasn't been good this season and a 3rd liner is ridiculous.

Saying he needs a lot of work, throwing out a Bracco comparison. Aside from size, can you name another single similarity between the 2?

How you value a prospect determines what trade value you are giving up here. Most fans/analysts/scouts clearly place more value on Robertson than you (kypreos probably agrees with you, if that makes you feel better).

Additionally, why would Korpisalo of all goalies demand such a price when not a single other goalie since Corey Schneider has demanded that type of payment??

Throw a 2nd at FLA for Driedger, and 2nd/3rd plus a B prospect for Jenner if you are so set on improving at 3C and in nets.

Right??

Korpisalo isn't a particularly good goalie. He's been below 0.900 half his seasons in the NHL. He had one hot playoff series and everyone fell in love.

Hard pass.

Even if he doesn't he's pretty well an essential piece in these next 4-5 years.

Even if 40 pts ends up being his ceiling, and he continues to be a puckhound.

When he's providing that for under $1M initially, then $2-3M after that, it's going to invaluable to this team in a flat cap world.

If he approaches his ceiling, then it's found gold.

He also plays on a Torterella team, that historically props goalies numbers up.

Again you're misinterpreting what I said. Lots of people were high on Bracco and multiple other leaf prospects who have not panned out. I did not say Bracco and Robertson were even remotely the same player. Here's a link to what some media and scouts were saying about Bracco back in the day if you're gonna stay hung up on that... https://www.hockeysfuture.com/prospects/jeremy-bracco/

Finally, the 1st would be a late 1st. Kyle Clifford and Jack Campbell took a 2nd, a third, and NHL roster player Trevor Moore.

Bracco had 1 decent AHL season, that didn't put his value near top 10 pick.

It's pretty well understood that Robertson is a top 10 pick last year if he's born 5 days later.

Every player has bust potential, but Robertson hit historic goal scoring rates in junior for players under age 19, and that's not the only tool in his toolbox.

Like others have said to pay that price for a middling goalie and a 3rd liner is just mind boggling.

Especially when goalies don't hold that kind of trade value.
