First grow up. Glendening plays in almost strictly defensive situations. Pánik is the opposite he plays in almost strictly offensive situations. But they have the same amount of points add in that Glendening is leading the league in FOW%. It doesn't take a genius to see Glendening has quite a bit more value than Pánik.
Glendening is great at faceoffs and is playing a very defensive role, like Panik did last year under Reirden, and before that in Arizona, when Panik was part of the league's best PK.
Panik plays 11 minutes per game this year. Glendening plays 14. Glendening has played one more game. They have the same number of points.
But between two guys who are mostly in checking roles and who each put up about 150 hits a year, I think it makes a difference that Panik is 6'2" and just turned 30, while LGD is 5'11" and will be 32 by the end of the season.
As far as value to the Red Wings, neither is a prospect so maybe they don't need either, but if they wanted to have one next year, Panik is signed through next year, whereas LGD will be a UFA and, as you pointed out, a lot of teams get intrigued by guys who lead the league in faceoff percentage. On the other hand, Panik was 4th on the Caps last year in points/60 at 2.12, in spite of playing a mostly defensive role, and nobody pays any attention to that stuff. Especially when this year he isn't doing quite as well. I agree, LGD is more valuable. No way Yzerman swaps them without getting a late pick thrown in. As good as Yzerman is, he can flip that 7th at the draft for a player better than either of these guys.
