MP Trades

Team: 2020-21 Pittsburgh Penguins
Initial Creation Date: Apr. 1, 2021
Published: Apr. 1, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
From now until April 12th the Penguins are very likely to move a roster player to add a another roster player or two with size and toughness. Marcus Pettersson is by far the most likely candidate and the one that makes most sense because he is young, talented and should have half-decent trade value. He is expendable because Mike Matheson and Brian Dumoulin are firmly ahead of him on the Pitt depth chart now.

Looking at some trades at some teams I think may have interest (WPG, VAN, MTL) and some teams that have been scouting Pitt lately (LA, DET, CHI) to try and find some possible trades. Let me know your thoughts and counter offers keeping in mind that they seeking more of a hockey trade where they bring in size and toughness. Ideally they would bring in a veteran/rental tough LD with size to replace MP and a RH C.

Riikola, Sceviour, Jankowski, late round 2021 picks and maybe 2022 picks would be available to add. Likely not the 2021 2nd or 1sts or top prospects unless the return is significant and has term.

EDIT - I didn't notice the Marcus Peterson part the first time. Still don't love it, but I'm generally indifferent about it now.

Sens Don't really have the long term need for Pettersson to justify moving White imo.

Jets decline. Forbort and Pionk are the only good Jets pairing this season, they wouldn't want to mess that up.

Yeah I think this one would need some tinkering. To be honest most of the other deals I like better for Pens but DET was scouting a lot of the Pens lately so maybe there is something there. Glendening is also tied to the Pens a lot but I`m not a huge fan.

VAN decline, they already have enough depth on the LHD.

Canucks I think should take that if that's on the table, Pettersson could be a decent Edler replacement and it'd allow them to shelter Rathbone from tougher matchups

Jackets decline, if they wanted left side help they'd just keep Gavrikov, who is better

Do you think they would move Wood for more?

Next year Edler and Benn are both probably gone. Juolevi has largely been a bust. Rathbone is unproven. Explain how they have enough depth?

Canucks I think should take that if that's on the table, Pettersson could be a decent Edler replacement and it'd allow them to shelter Rathbone from tougher matchups

Jackets decline, if they wanted left side help they'd just keep Gavrikov, who is better

I agree. Edler and Benn are likely gone. MP walks right into Edlers role.

Yeah, the Jackets one I didn`t think was as good of a fit but I thought I would throw it in there anyways.

Jets decline. Forbort and Pionk are the only good Jets pairing this season, they wouldn't want to mess that up.

I saw another Jets ACGM that had a MP-Forbort trade so I thought I`d try it out.

Do you think they would move Wood for more?

I think so. His value should be high right now

He is their most logical trade chip. Matheson has jumped him and Dumo isn`t going anywhere. They can bring in a #6 dman and also grab an upgrade at C.

so swap one hole for another hole?
bottom 6 forward is much easier to fill than a solid bottom pairing guy with upside.
            makes no sense anymore.

Makes perfect sense and is very clearly the strategy off of what Burke has stated publicly numerous times. You bring in a depth #6 D with size and a impact F (ideally RH C)
