He’s played for Laval this year. He’s been one of their better defensemen and signing him allows him to be an option if the habs need to call anyone up. He could be a decent 3rd pairing option if need be.

Also by signing him now, he becomes an RFA this summer so that Montréal retains his rights.

Since Ouellet just got sent down, I have a feeling he might be called up to the taxi-squad, which is likely why he’s being signed right now. Since we don’t have any healthy D beyond our top 6 travelling with the habs right now.

Edit: Although I guess they could technically go without a 7th D, since Laval and Montréal are staying in Québec for the most part over the next 2 weeks, other than short trips to Ontario.

He shoots left, and he’s been playing on the left side though. Leskinen and Ouellet have been the ones playing on their off-sides.
