Miller sucks and if Andersen is healthy he's going to get a chance to take his spot back. If he isn't you don't need to trade him so a 1st and a 4th for an unproven goalie and a ****ty defenceman is north worth the assets

Dermott can play just as crappy defensively as Miller can for less than half the money.

Goaltending is a lateral move. Including a 1st round pick is insane.

100% Pass.

Miller is about protecting Holl for the most part, and he's not worse than Dermott and potentially better. Everyone is going to say players are garbage who come from the Sabres and I don't think that's true. As for the goaltender considering his stats and who he plays for we will just agree to disagree.

I haven't looked at any advanced stats but I would think Dermott is better defensively than Miller... It's kinda hard not too.

Every player that's left Buffalo has done better and while you guys hate Justin Holl and want him gone I think him getting taken in the expansion draft would be devastating to the Leafs so even if he doesn't play a single game it's worth it because you can expose him and protect Holl. On top of that while you guys think a first round pick with zero scouting is worth the world I don't particularly. As for Dermott, I know you guys love him. I know but I don't get why. He's nowhere near the stud everyone makes him out to be. Might sound harsh but I tell it like it is. Ullmark has played well on a team where nobody does. As much as I appreciate what Freddy has been for us, He's hurt and he's not good when he hasn't been playing and no matter the situation it doesn't make sense to resign him.
As it stands at the end of this season Holl is gone if we don't get someone to expose and Freddy isn't coming back. Dermott isn't good and a player that's at least as good and possibly better is worth the shot if it also gives the team someone to expose.

Of course they have it's been publicly stated by players who have left (O'Reilly said he lost his love of the game, and Lehner turned to drugs and alcohol Just to name a couple). When did I say I hate and want Holl gone? I didn't, I want him to stay. Why would he get taken in the expansion draft? The leafs can and most likely will protect Holl in the ED. Not sure why you don't think they can't or won't protect Holl. The leafs will go 8-1 Matthews, Marner, Tavares, Nylander, Rielly, Muzzin, Brodi, Holl & Campbell. Why would they go 7-1? Again, never said a late 1st in this year's draft was worth the world. Maybe you should not make assumptions, just a thought. Who made Dermott out too be a stud? He's a serviceable NHL player I think your expectations of him are too high. No you don't you make assumptions and think that you're correct (which is fine, but it doesn't mean you always are... nobody is perfect and if you think you're always right you will never learn anything). I agree Ullmark is good and it will cost a lot too get him, as it should. I also never said we should re-sign Freddie... I think it would be a mistake too. Dermott can and will be exposed if he doesn't get traded which he likely won't for that reason. Again, I think your expectations of him are too high, he's a serviceable NHLer. Not a chance Miller is better than Dermott.

You haven't checked the expansion rules. You have to expose 1 defenceman with 1 year left on his deal. I've been endlessly attacked on here for my view of Holl and told that he's a **** NHL player and carried by Muzzin and told by those same people that Dermott is a future top 6 NHL player. As it stands The Leafs are required to expose one of Holl, Muzzin, Barrie or Reilly. Check the expansion draft simulator. By getting a defenceman signed next year they could protect the big 4 and Reilly Muzzin, Brodie Holl and Kerfoot would likely be taken by Seattle.

Why wouldn't the leafs just sign Dermott to an extension prior to the expansion draft instead of making a bad trade? I like Ullmark but would rather add Hall than Miller. I never attacked you on your view of Holl... I agree with you by the sounds of things. Dermott is a top 6 NHL defenceman now considering a team dresses 6 d-men a night and he's usually one of them. If you want to trade for a d-man under contract find a 7th or 8th guy eho will cost a late round pick. Or more likely Dubas extends Marincin because he seems too love him for some reason.

I meant top 4 d but yeah signing Dermott would make sense if they can. Marincin even better since he's an oh **** dman but he doesn't have the games to qualify and won't.

I think Foligno is an incredible move. With his style of play and the fact that he's basically a heavy checking, aggressive Zach Hyman type of player with leadership and excellent defensive play he's perfect.
I would have preferred a better upgrade to Dermott than Hutton, but he's probably near a 1-1 replacement should he be needed.
Rittich was an excellent move, I think he's got more potential than he's shown, but he's a good backup and happy with the role, the type of goaltender Toronto is good at working with. Gives them flexibility during the expansion and after depending on what happens.
Noesen is interesting. The Devils have been a WTF for a while, the pens barely gave him a look, and the Sharks aren't much different. I wonder what the Leafs locker room and the development staff do with him considering he's been a decent player. It will be interesting to see them get him in a few games
I don't know much about Suomela, but he looks like a Dubas project he thinks his guys can help acclimate to the North American game better than the sharks could. Good bet considering their track record.

I also think there's a good chance that Seattle has a look at Rittich for the draft for the same reason Dubas would find him interesting. Good backup on a great deal and if they have confidence in who they get for player development they have a shot at helping him jump from a backup to a starter and if not you still have a good serviceable backup. It wouldn't be hard for them to resign him again after that as well so that's a bonus.
