If all you want to look at is stats Samuel Girard beats you.
Not that stats are what makes a guy belong or not. They aren't. He's not a good player. He's carried on a line, that's all there is to it.

Nurse kills more penalties, is more physical and has more goals so ya I’ll take nurse over Girard.

Away from McDavid and Draisaitl, Nurse had been below average.

Right or wrong, say what you want. Price is on the team in some sort of role. First, second, or third.

Beginning of the season I would have 100% agreed.

I think they will for sure run 3 lefties and 3 righties, as thats how hockey Canada have always done it. At the beginning of the season, I thought:

Chabot-Makar
Theodore-Pietranglo
Reilly/Morrissey-Hamilton/Weber/Doughty/Parayko

After this season, its very hard to argue that Nurse is not in the conversation for LHD. I think no doubt he would need to replicate his performance next season before the Olympics to know what we really have in him, but the way he is playing this season, it would not be a surprise for him to make the team.

"He's not a good player"
- What an intellectual comment. I would imagine you haven't watched Nurse play regularly.

ruling out the goalies up there.
Every single player there is a difference maker. Nurse is a piece.
I'm sorry, you can be upset all day, don't care. He doesn't belong there.

Except his performance hasn't been as good as it seems. His numbers have been good when he's been on the ice with McDavid or Draisaitl but below average when he's not with them. It's the McDavid effect. Rielly gets to play with good players as well but he creates offence at a super elite rate and is decent defensively.

Better not question the smartest guy on this site, he gets really cranky when anyone challenges his opinions. Although it's fun getting him riled up.

As i've mentioned on other posts, this time last year, I would 110% agree with you. This season he does not even remotely look like the same player. None of the bonehead defensive lapses, substantially more offensive production, and no signs of fatigue after playing 25+ minutes a night. I think he would need to sustain this play until the team is selected to even be in the conversation, but you comment is still wildly inaccurate.

I was on team trade Nurse last year, as I didn't think he was getting better and in fact hurt the team on a regular basis with his defensive lapses. Not the same player anymore. Im not saying he is a shoe-in, but saying he's not a good player is trying to shut down a conversation clearly without even watching him play.

What kind of numbers suggest that? Not arguing they aren't there, but I just want to know.

Deep specific analytics aside, as a fan whos watched practically every Oilers game for the last decade +, I guess im using more of the "eye-test" on Nurse. For the previous 5+ seasons, Nurse might have been the most frustrating player to watch. He has all the physical tools and athleticism you could every dream for a dman, but you could guarantee 2-3 absolute bone-head decisions a game that would more often than not lead to chances/goals against. This season, that simply isn't happening. He's been a rock in the d-zone visually, and obviously is capitalizing on his scoring chances at a higher rate. He plays a ton 5x5 and pk, and has been getting some late pp looks too and does not look out of place anywhere.

Im not saying he does not have any flaws in his game, nor am I saying I think he's guaranteed a roster spot, but for how he's played this season, and the relatively short list of guys on the left-side for team Canada (RHD is way deeper), I just think its pretty ignorant to say he has zero chance or he's not a good player as some people have posted here.

why do you sit here and act like no one has seen an Edmonton game all year. Hell they are a showcased NHL team. Their games are on ALL the time. You act like no one has seen them play because you can't deal with objective criticism. He's clearly not the best defenseman off that list, he's not up to par with the rest of the players on it. You just refuse to recognize that even though multiple people are telling you, he really shouldn't be there.

Gotcha. Nurse is objectively a bad player because "pharrow" said so.

Never once implied "no one has seen an Oilers game", but see what you want in what I posted.

Can't really have a constructive discussion with someone who has a vastly different definition of the word objective.

Clearly your having a melt down.
Just unable to come back down to reality that there are better players for that role.

That was not what our discussion was about. All I was clearly saying is that Nurse would need to continue his current level of play to be considered for the team. I even stated that I had Chabot, Theodore, Morrissey and Reilly above him.

You argument was that he is objectively a bad player. Which has nothing to do with him making team Canada. Stating your own personal opinion as fact says a lot more about yourself than anything else. Lots of Sports network analysts have Nurse in the conversation as of right now, but clearly you know something they don't.
