Getting a bit wishful with that return especially with the retention. Both SJS players have almost no value

You do realize Neal has negative value...

I’d rather the Sharks decline than even take Neal on with retention for just a first.

3 years at over 4 mil for just a first is decent but not worth it.

He has no room in our lineup as he’d be less beneficial than trying out some of the Cuda players.

Before anyone says “well it’s really only 2 seasons”

It’s 3.

The rest of this season, the expansion draft, the entry draft, rfa period, ufa period he will still be affecting our financials. I still consider that a negative and while he’ll be only with us for like “20 games of 1 of those 3 years” he still negatively affects us for the remainder of the “year”. Add more coming to SJS and it’s acceptable but EDM gets even more hesitant then they already would be, therefore both teams decline.

Tho with a buyout both teams become hesitant, EDM for the price, SJS for the term. Not sure on the fit.

He'd be bought out in the offseason. The cap hit from the buyout would be negligible.
yikes liked this.

Neal is a $5M cap hit killing time on the taxi squad while the Oil scrambles to make room in order to add at the deadline staying within cap compliance. They're a Playoff team for sure this season, so if they can drop Neal for a 2021 non-lottery 1st they're 100% gonna do that. Sorensen is a proven, scratchy player with playoff experience, and Claesson is a veteran LHD who can slot into the bottom 4. This move also leaves EDM with enough room to add yet another player for the playoff push.

Oilers have like 6LD no need for Claesson. Sorenson maybe.. but really Oilers have enough bottom 6 wingers they need a C that can win draws. Oilers might trade a first for shipping out Neal but not a first and 3rd with retention when the buyout is under 2M

If you trade Neal for a 1st with the $1M retention, then the buyout percentage EDM would be on the hook for is equal to $323k, which is far less than the $2M they'd owe if they kept him.
