TO says absolutely no to the first trade and should say no to the second although Columbus would say no for sure.

These are long term disasters. The cap implications beyond this season are horrible.

Leafs say no to 1st one. 2nd one is interesting. Not sure how I totally feel about it.

Columbus declines and leafs overpay. Some of the first package is needed in Columbus trade. Something rather shiny to pull Jones

Toronto says no to the first one. Super Nintendo Chalmers (greatest nickname) is not the same player he was 4 years ago. Huge overpay when you realize that.

The Jones deal is a weird one and I think both say no. Columbus should trade him if he won't resign, but it's also a tonne for Toronto to pay if he won't resign here. And I don't think we can afford to resign him.

They should do something like it (there isn't a big enough piece there though I agree) now or next summer if he won't commit to them.

Agree completely.

On another note entirely, I just finished my third run-in with The Sparrow-Brain and inasmuch as you had a similar dust-up with this poor fellow, I thought you might be interested in the exchange:

This will teach me to make semi-serious comments about guys’ contracts.

An easy no from the Leafs with both trades. Just silly to trade two of the top 6 Dman and then wait for another two to be NHL ready after quarantine.
Leafs need the cost efficient Holl and Dermot next season instead of just Jones. Same Garland who should get big bucks....Really the trades don't help the much this season and screws their cap and their flow of young players in the future.

Honestly, it would be awful if the leafs did that. Seth Jones is one of the most overrated players in the league. People talk about him as if he is a top dman in the NHL.

...probably because he is.

Any Jones trade that ends with the Jackets not having a #1C (or some other otherwise missing core piece) is an automatic fail no matter how many other assets you try to throw in.

He definitely is not one of the best dmen in the league. But he does seem to have that rep, which means he has insanely high trade value currently. They definitely should get back what you say. And I think they should do it soon and sell high.

Name a 1 C that's available? That also makes sense to ship out for Jones a FA in 14 months

Yeah the context of this matters of course, I don't know if a #1C is available. I should have been more clear on my overall point- I think the perceived value of someone like Jones is higher than what his actual value should be, based on the player he is. It's one of those things that based on the market he should get a ton, but if I were a team, I would never give up what the team will realistically demand, as dictated by the market.
