Team: 2020-21 Winnipeg Jets
Initial Creation Date: Apr. 3, 2021
Published: Apr. 3, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
How does this look? Creates a bit more of a scoring 3rd line while it could also be responsible defensively. The 4th line becomes a line that can play 11-13 minutes a night. Unlikely the Jets make the ekholm deal, and likely won’t spend their first anywhere else. Seems like a Chevy thing to do, just out of left field.

Evolving Hockey percentile ranks for Oleksiak:
Last season: Overall 67th percentile, Offense 20, Defense 97
Last 3 seasons: Overall 72nd percentile, Offense 48, Defense 93

He won't be cheap next season. lol

He’s purely a rental, with Heinola and samberg coming up there won’t be room for him anyways.

The 3rd line of Copp, Lowry, and Appleton should not be touched. They score the odd goal, kill penalties, and used to shutdown other teams top line. I believe all three of them will or have surpassed their own season bests.
Perreault as much as I hate his contract is too late to be traded as he is playing damn good as a 4th liner and his contract is up at the end of the year.
If Winnipeg comes calling, Hamonic should waive his NTC and if he plays an important role then he could demand a better contract next year.
Chevy has to address the 1rhd issue. Not that he is the answer, I thought Poolman played good last night.

Apparently hamonic isn’t waiving to go anywhere. So scratch that.

Agree that that line likely shouldn’t be touched. Maybe just beef up the 4th line then with tierney.

What 5 teams do you think are on Perreault's no trade list?

If Ottawa is one of them, this doesn't go through.

I think Ottawa would retain half of Perrault's cap and move him immediately. They'd certainly find some playoff-bound takers.

He’s honestly been too good for the Jets to move. Just not sure what other bad contract the Jets can move. Demelo? Too much term likely for Ottawa.

Something with Hamonic and WPG doesn't make sense and I think we will never find out.

If there is a weakness on the 4th line it might be Thompson. Like the guy but just doesn't seem to have it- gets bumped around too much. I am all for getting a better but it must be cheaper or at least a player whose contract is done at the end of the year.

My guess is that the Jets thought they were set on RD with Pionk and DeMelo, with depth in Beaulieu and Poolman. Also, I suspect Hamonic took less money in Vancouver in exchange for a full NMC which Benning likes to give out like candies, but Cheveldayoff doesn't with the only full NMC clause going to Wheeler.

The DeMelo contract is one of Chevy's worst signings. Sorry guys but I don't know what make anyone think DeMelo is top4.

Agreed. I would put it just behind Dmitry Kulikov and Steve Mason.

It's mind boggling how Demelo's play has dropped since joining the Jets. He was much better in Ottawa; I was angry we traded him. But yes, with Bernard-Docker coming in and HOPEFULLY Zub getting signed I don't think Ottawa would take Demelo back.

The Mason one might be his best. When Mason failed, Hellybuyck emerged. happy . If he would of signed someone good, Helly might of never gotten the chance to play.

I don’t understand why he’s dropped so much. He was great in Ottawa. I was hoping for like the perfect partner for Morrissey, but nope. Its weird, he’s had a weird season. I feel like demelo would still be a great fit for Ottawa. Great mentor for a lot of the young guys, there’s just realistically no room for him. Jets thought they solved RD issues with demelo. Now they’re once again trying to trade for a dman.

Seeing how much better Perreault is doing this season I wonder if his struggles the last two seasons weren't more because of usage by Maurice instead of any kind of significant decline.

DeMelo's way too slow to be a top pairing dman and Morrissey can't prop him up like Chabot did, he's fine on a 3rd pair and could maybe be a passable 2nd pair guy but with the way the Jets D core is constructed I don't see where he really fits going forward and he makes way too much for a 3rd pair guy.

I really hope so, Stanley is miles better then I ever thought he could be, we're so hung up on handedness when really one or two of Heinola, Samberg or Stanley need to learn how to play on their offhand.

Stanley really has impressed me. Could be a great #4 shutdown guy.

I think samberg is the guy to play on his offside. He was with Heinola.
