Dubas is awfully quiet right now

Created by: tony135420
Team: 2020-21 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: Apr. 3, 2021
Published: Apr. 3, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
I hope Palmieri is the target and he's just waiting for NJ and Palmieri to figure out if they want to extend. IF he doesn't extend, Dubas pounces. If the deal is made right around the TDL, Leafs have 2.5M available in cap space.

Palmieri is meh, if you could take a chance on Hall for a 2nd and B prospect, I think that's a better way to go.

I thought Palmieri didn't want to play far from home or something - someone mentioned the Leafs (and all Canadian teams) are probably on his NTC

Hall is twice as much and twice as meh then KP
He also is half the pts. Any other year, and yes no doubt, not this year

Everyone thinks Isles, Pens or Bruins...but I think Leafs gotta be an option.
Devils GM says he wants prospects over picks.
Leafs GM says he is willing to trade prospects.
Isles. Pens and Bruins have no prospects.

Bing, bang, boom.
Its Palms to Leafs.

Hall isn't twice as much, Friedman has been reporting it's a 2nd and a prospect. Palmieri and Hall are both pretty inconsistent this season, if you're going to gamble why not gamble on the one with the higher skill set?

Devils fans are putting this insanely high price tag on Palmieri while he's having a pretty terrible year

He's a good player, but he's not on Taylor Hall's level, even if Hall is having a down year. I think Hall would thrive in Toronto, New Jersey was the closest thing he had to a fast, high skilled system since Edmonton, and neither of those teams were great. It would be a treat to watch him in Toronto.

At same salary and contract, I'd agree with you.
Hall is a game-breaker when he is at his best.

But on the current deals...
Hall: $8 million AAV and full NTC
Palmieri: $4.65 million AAV and has said he would waive NTC if he doesn't re-sign.
...and with how Palms is currently playing, he likely returns more at deadline.

Slow start, much better lately.
And if asking for Bolduc + 2nd is "insanely high price", I guess you should look at the standard Fitzy created last deadline.

Okay well NTC's are virtually useless at this point, nobody will say no to Toronto. I'd still take Hall over Palmieri. Hyman is Toronto's Palmieri. Hall would be a skilled left shot wing. Something Toronto doesn't have and should probably think of adding.

Last deadline was under completely different circumstances in a pre-covid world. Bolduc is highly valued by the islanders

Palmeri would need to waive. Maybe he would for a cup run idk. But we have more space at deadline so we will wait and see. He definitely has somthing in mind

Hyman is good, but I think step below Palmieri
But fair point on team fit. If goal is to get #1 LW to move Hyman to 3rd line, Hall probably a better bet.
If want 2nd/3rd line RW, Palmieri is better choice.
As long as Leafs can make salary work.

Not sure how Covid would have made any of last years trade any different. All were UFAs or on good contracts.
One of Bolduc, Salo or Wilde plus 2nd is probably price for Palms. That is fair, no?

Palms has said he would waive if they could not find agreement to re-sign.
Am guessing Topi Niemela, Engvall and pick type of deal for leafs.

I think the difference is that teams are much more sensitive about retaining/taking on salary and that there is no way that either Hall or Palmieri can be re-signed by any current contenders. It's a big difference. I doubt Lou would have traded so much for Pageau or Greene if he didn't plan on re-signing both of them

Hall is on an $8M contract
Palms is $4.6 contract
At 50 off its $4 and $2.3
That's pretty Damn close to half

The higher skillset guy ain't bringing it this year and he's got more to work with teamwise

He's not having a good year that's worth of giving up major assets

Market for top 6 forwards are looking dry. Palmieri has been playing solid recently.

All players put the Canadian teams on their NTC even Canadian players. It's mostly due to taxes as many analysts have stated that before, doesn't mean they won't waive especially at the deadline and if they have an expiring contract. Palmieri could be the exception not the rule tho.

Maybe but in the isles/devils games he always looked like a non-factor

That's expected. Most Devils players seem to struggle against the Isles. The Islanders are a great defensive team and the Devils barely have any offensive opportunities against them. Palmieri has looked good vs Penguins, Flyers, and especially the Bruins in recent games.

More to work with team wise? They have 8 wins and Eichel hasn't played in a month. He's never played in a great system like Toronto's in his entire career. That team is an abomination.

Yes Hall has better players than Palms all season.
Palms center Hischier (5 GP!) , broke a bone in his leg to start late than took a puck in the schnoze. Hughes is better this year but not there yet. Hall has had Eichel, Staal, Reinhart, Cozens
