Montreal is probably not on Evander's three team trade list and his contract is getting terminated.

Pittsburgh accepts.

Nashville accepts.

Buffalo declines.

Colorado probably declines as well.

COL definitely declines. The Jost, Nichushkin Donskoi line has been so good, and Jost is going to be an affordable young option at 3C not a straight rental like Danault.

Jost has been every bit as good defensively as Danault this year, and has started to find his offense. The line of Jost, Nichushkin, Donskoi has been killing it defensively and offensively. The Avs are #1 in goals for goals against and goal differential and Jost is going to be an affordable young RFA, while Danault is going to be a pricey expensive UFA, how would they be foolish? Yeah the Avs say no.

Because Danault turned down 5 million x 6 and probably regrets it, I think that's going to be his asking price for an extension in the offseason.

Sakic will balk at that and will probably want to keep Jost because he's under team control while Danault is a pending UFA.

I do agree with you that Montreal should hang on to Danault for a playoff run and try to sign him for cheap in the offseason.

Make him regret turning down 5 million x 6 from last year :/

Both teams decline! ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

COL dont need him and MTL could get more value for him.

SJ declines. The only pieces there with value are Brook and the 1st. Adding in the negative value of Byron to negate some of that and it’s woefully short for Kane on a fair value deal.

100 minutes of Jost being paired with great defensive players doesn't make him "better defensively" than the guy who shut down Crosby last playoffs and that MacKinnon called "one of the hardest player to play against". Doesn't matter because Habs don't even listen to that offer.

100 minutes that funny. Because he has been the primary forward PK, and why the hell would the Avs swap out a young cost controlled RFA for a high priced UFA when they are already the top team in the league In GF and GA. The Avs aren’t going to trade anybody out of their top 9 or their top 5 d this year, period. Sakic has avoided those types of moves and will continue to do so because it’s the right thing to do.

danult would be better for scoring at this point jost is not great dont give me the "oohhhh but he is good defensively not really i mean he is on third line and nus is a beast on pk donskoi is good on def jost is ok i dont have any problems with him i like him but he isnt what everyone thinks he is and they would keep danault so newhook could play if they want to win a cup they would be a lot better with danult

Jost is the poster child for how to mess up a guys development, then put him where he belongs and all the sudden he is playing better and better. Regardless of that, what is a fact is that COL is one of the best teams in the league with Jost at 3C, how Danault fits in would be a complete mystery beyond they wouldn’t be re-signing him. And imo there is very little chance Newhook plays a regular role with the Avs this year.

If they acquired Danault he would be a 100% rental no way they could re-sign him and Makar, Landeskog, and Grubauer. I think they slot Newhook in at wing to start next year with Kadri and Burakovsky.

I guarantee they ease him at wing. Wing has less defensive responsibility and pairing him initially with Kadri a defensively responsible center is ideal. They played MacK on the wing when he was a rookie.

but mak is a different story he had proven he was available to play center the reason they started him at wing is because they had o reilly and duchene and maybe stasney i cant remeber if he played center

And? They aren’t going to drop him straight in at C because they don’t need to. I think he finds his way there by the end of the season (I hope), but I can’t see a silltuation where they runs rookie out game 1 as 3C

if he is third center and he only plays ten minutes a game they wont rush him out its not like he is playing 20 minutes a game

Except 3C doesn’t ply 10 minutes a game that’s 4C. You also want him to play with higher skilled offensive players because you expect him to be the 2C as soon as 22-23. The important thing is that he play with skilled guys and they stay the same so he can build a rapport. The upside to starting him at LW with Kadri, is he can play the C role offensively and let Kadri take that role defensively. Whatever they do, just don’t do what they did with Jost.
