additional assets will be lost for not selecting Demelo or Appleton. (maybe its a 1st rd pick I dunno but it needs to be done)

I realize that Doug Hamilton will not likely choose Winnipeg but... maybe no one else offers him $60schmill He's an intelligent dude. Very good chance to win with a very good team in a legit hockey town!
There is no prospect in the Jets org that plays the right side that is even close to being a franchise Dman so for me going after a player like this is a no brainer.
The window of Vezina caliber Helle and prime years of 27, 55, 81, 13, 4, 44, 22, 9, 17 and value contracts and ELC's on the blueline and with depth pieces clearly emphasize this teams time is now!!

Some predictions
Copp goes to arbitration... again! not good. IMO he gets moved summer of 2022 (sad face emoji)
Perfetti joins team after destroying the World Juniors tourney
Dubois dominates in every way!
Daniel Torgersson will emerge as a legitimate future impact player at the NHL level.
I cant wait to see Anton Johannesson!!

Happy Easter!

Zero reason to protect 17. Protect apples instead and just let them choose one of DeMelo, Harkins, Niku, BooLoo or Berdin. No reason to give up that much to protect B6 players. Re-sign lowry after the draft.

I think Lowry is a team guy. He will agree to his extension after the expansion draft, allowing the Jets to protect Appleton. I would also like to see the Jets bring back Stastny for a 1-2 year extension after expansion to keep the top 9 together for another season. Hamilton would look fantastic in a Jets jersey but I think this may be a case where three dimes are better than a quarter. Solid Dmen were signing for $2 million in last free agency. Pionk, Morrissey, Heinola, DeMelo and Stanley should be a serviceable core with more offense than defense. Guys like Savard or Hamonic could be had for bargains in another flat cap summer. That frees up $3-5M in cap space to pay Stastny or another legit top 6 free agent. I also think Lowry and Copp will get closer to $4M/season each.

I signed him 1 year. Arbitration ruling. He’s on the top line. After next season I think he’s gone.

I don’t entirely disagree with you. I like stastny but he’s going to get $3-4million as you say which is too much for budget.
Niku is not playing for the Jets and a 3rd rd ick is meh. Harkins is a decent player but I’d rather lose him than any of the guys you mentioned! Left side heavy. Need some right handed shots.

I’d love it if there was a wink wink deal with Lowry but I wouldn’t bet on it. Nor would I want him to get to UFA. Niku won’t play for Jets. I’d rather lose Harkins and a 3rd before any of the guys that might get selected otherwise. Seattle is not taking Berdin or Beaulieu so... it’s demelo or Appleton which sucks!!

Lowry is a UFA regardless after this season. Zero point in using a spot for him. Use that spot for Apples and hope Lowry re-signs in FA. Remember he was a proponent of bringing his dad here so the chances of him resigning are good.
FeFe, Ehlers, PLD, Wheels, Apples, Connor, Copp, JoMo, Stanley, Pionk, Helly. Lose one of Harkins, Berdin or Niku. Doubt they take DeMelo. No point wasting a 3rd.

That’ would be a big risk letting him get to UFA. I’d rather be certain. Some team will offer him $4+ and he’s gone. I don’t think his dad is a factor in any way. This team would look very different without him and not in a good way IMO.

So your argument is to protect him by signing him to what, 4M prior to the XD therefore needing to protect him?
If he is looking to capitalize on his UFA, he wouldn’t sign here anyways and would therefore wait until FA if all he was looking for was a payday making your argument moot. This argument makes no sense and literally is a wasted protection spot.
I’m sure Chevy has an idea as to Lowry’s intentions and is planning accordingly. If Lowry is willing to come back at a reasonable cost, wait until after XD and sign him to an extension . If he’s looking for a payday, don’t protect him and let someone overpay as it would be evident he has no intention of staying, thereby saving a protection spot for Apples.
If you think we are the only team not signing players to extensions until after the XD, you haven’t been paying attention. Hamilton, Rantanen, RNH, Ovi, Getzlaf, all waiting until after the XD to maximize the protection spots. I have confidence in Chevys ability to get Lowry signed to an affordable deal in the off season.

You might be right, My point is if I’m Chevy and Lowry is willing to sign a deal such as I have proposed while I have the sole negotiating rights then I do it and figure it out later. If it costs me a 3rd I can live with that. If he gets to free agency there is a greater chance some random team may (or may not) offer him some crazy number that he can’t refuse.
And I didn’t realize you had all this inside information on what handshake deals so many of these players and teams have! Wow! I have heard these suggestions made by many prognosticators but the reality is you have no idea!!
