I don't think Ottawa is trading Tierney at 50% retained for just Connor Timmins.

Staal with 50% retained got a 3rd and a 5th, so I'd say this is pretty damn good value for Tierney. If anything, it might be tilted in Ottawa's favor, especially since Timmins would likely be second-pairing for the Sens.

You’re getting a near A prospect for a bottom 6 forward?

Maybe like a small pick added but that’s not a bad piece.

Ottawa should be fully down. While I love Tierney, Timmins is a great return. I personally don’t like Timmins plus his injury history but Timmins is a great price for Ottawa to return. Would definitely make their Blue-Line depth interesting.

What's the price for Timmins? Would you be interested in a package of Motte and Pearson assuming they're cleared and healthy

Not nearly as convinced of his upside. Maybe a few years ago, but he's nowhere close to an A prospect. I'd definitely like to have him, but I'd probably value him as less than a 2nd. I just Don't think the top 4 upside is there like it used to look like it was.

"He would be 2nd pair on the Sens" doesn't mean the same thing as "he is a 2nd pair Dman". He's an NHL player, but I don't really see him ever being a true 1st or 2nd pair defender.

Also as far as using the Staal trade as a benchmark, it doesn't really work because you're ignoring the fact that Tierney has an extra year on his deal. Getting Tierney as a rental + 1 year at 1.75mil would be very valuable, and in my opinion Ottawa would be justified in asking for something like Timmins and a 3rd.

Still less than 20 gp, hes also been utilized “weirdly” is maybe how to say it? His ice time isn’t consistent to allow him to get into a routine. His play however has shown he deserves more NHL time. He’s got no special teams time either. I meant near A as in he’s likely a B prospect. I personally don’t love Timmins so I’d say at most a B- prospect. And I’m close to value as well. Tierney should return a late first (similar to Goodrow). Imo tierney used to be worth more, they shoulda traded him last year or this offseason. He’s kinda dipped this year but that’s due to different line mates and less play time just due to Ottawa having new youth. He’s not relied on as much.

I value Timmins around a 2nd add a small pick like a 4th and Timmins and a 4th seems like a fair return for Ottawa. I 100% see the reasoning for being hesitant tho. As I too dislike Timmins. But it’d say it’s a pretty good return seeing as even with Timmins not thriving in his NHL time he’s actually earning his living.

Fair enough. I think he'll develop into a decent defensive d-man given time to develop as well as some time in the NHL. There's just no room for him on our roster aside from 3rd pairing.

And that's my bad, I thought Tierney was a pending UFA as well. With the added year of control, then value obviously goes up.

Staal was also a UFA at the end of the season. Tierney has 2 years left AFTER this year.

Yeah, I botched that. Thought he was a UFA. Still don't think Timmins is bad value for a bottom-6 forward.
