The rule of thumb whenever I see a Savard or Foligno trade is to first look for a 1st - because the price we've been hearing from reporters is "late 1st plus B prospect". When that's not there, I look at the other assets and ask the question "are these guys good enough to make up for the 1st not being there?"

In this case, so far as I can tell, Kuhlman barely qualifies as the B prospect, let alone substituting for being short on the pick.

And you base this assessment on what? Cynicism? "I want it and so I say so"?

I'm just going by what has been reported by CBJ-connected media.

Players who got a 1st round pick at the 2020 deadline: Brady Skjei, Goodrow, Pageau, Kase, Coleman and Zucker
with the Pageau sign and trade, every one of those guys had term on their deal.
The remaining top UFAs to be were Toffoli (2nd+) Greene (2nd), Scandella (2nd+), Dillion (2nd+).
Thats the type of comparables Id use for Foligno/Savard. Keep in mind Savard is statistically having his worst season in years and Foligno is having an ok year. maybe someone panics and overpays for one of those guys but i really cant see any team giving up a 1st for either of those guys, especially when it might be a stretch to get a 1st for Hall or Palmieri
