Ideal Deadline Targets from an Outside Perspective

Created by: krakowitz
Team: 2020-21 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: Apr. 1, 2021
Published: Apr. 5, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
As a non-Leafs fan, I think these two are the perfect targets for the Leafs. I see Wood bringing a few Hyman-esque elements to the middle six and penalty kill that they need more of, and Savard is a shot blocking beast that can help contain the scoring depth that teams like Winnipeg have. I'd also look into an Andersen+ for Kuemper deal if Arizona is up for it, but I doubt something like that is possible and the Leafs end up rolling with Campbell in the playoffs.

I didn't take the time to figure out values in the trades since everybody gets so up tight about them. The key is that the Leafs aren't giving up any of their top three prospects (Amirov, Sandin, Robertson) to get either of these players. Probably moving out mostly draft picks and prospects in the next tiers to get these deals done.

The defence TO has has done a great job of defending against the high powered offence of Edmonton and Winnipeg. Savard hasn't been doing the same in his division.

Fair. I haven't really watched Columbus this year with the exception of a few games, but I know he's been playing fairly heavy minutes against a lot high end talent, which won't happen in Toronto. At the very least, I think he's an upgrade to Bogosian (even though he hasn't played poorly) and gives them more depth. I do think he'll do better in Toronto than he has this year in Columbus. His track record is much better than this, and CBJ being a dumpster fire this year doesn't help

Wood would cost a lot to get, especially with retention

Miles Wood be good in Toronto.
Leafs fans aren’t gonna like the price though.

Top D-man prospect, bottom-6 forward and pick

I figured as much. I'm sure the extra year of control is a pretty big factor too. As a Caps fan, I've seen a lot of him this year and I've been pretty impressed. What are you guys thinking from a Leafs perspective? Liljegren and a 2nd ish?

Probably not enough. It would cost an overpayment if the Leafs want Wood and that isn't really an overpayment.

If Wood was such a good PKer, wouldn't he actually play the PK??? Like even a little bit???

Where is this myth coming from that Wood is this great 2 way forward??

Leafs want nothing to do with a guy making that much $$ to play in their bottom 6, while his cost is higher than it should be because he was on a shooting % bender to start the season.

I find Wood to be super overvalued. If the Devils want something along the lines of the crazy price that fans on here want for him, I don't think he's an ideal target.

I honestly think it's just because he plays a hardworking game. Appealing for fans to see that and causes them to make assumptions, I guess?

Thornton and Spezza do not play centre for the Leafs. Leafs need Kerfoot at centre and don't need LWer Wood as an exchange.

Does the current edition of Savard replace any Leaf top 6 Dman?

The only reason Kerfoot should be traded by Leafs is because of the Leafs need the cap space for a superior player coming back in a trade. To think Kerfoot doesn't have value as Leaf....foolish.

Maybe but I am not sure he's needed.
