Not a buyers market

Created by: Devs17

Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Trades
1.
NJD
  1. Wilde, Bode
  2. 2021 1st round pick (NYI)
NYI
  1. Palmieri, Kyle ($2,325,000 retained)
  2. Seney, Brett
  3. 2021 2nd round pick (NYI)
Additional Details:
I have a feeling they’ll be more to palms trade then 3 pieces
2.
NJD
  1. 2021 3rd round pick (BOS)
3.
NJD
  1. 2021 2nd round pick (WSH)
  2. 2022 3rd round pick (WSH)
Additional Details:
Washington is basically giving up a 2022 3rd and moving down 10 spots in this years draft. Pretty solid trade I think
WSH
  1. Zajac, Travis ($2,500,000 retained)
  2. 2021 3rd round pick (NJD)
Additional Details:
I think Zajac is a type of player Washington is looking for. Honestly I don’t want the devils to trade him and he’s criminally under appreciated. So I don’t think this is an overpayment. If anything the third nj is sending would be their own.
4.
NJD
  1. 2021 4th round pick (PHI)
Additional Details:
Maybe Philly feels like they need to do something cause I wouldn’t say they’re sellers or buyers. Vatanen can help fill out their bottom pair.

I think just Palmieri 50% retained will get you a 1st and a B prospect like Wilde. Kulikov will not get a 3rd, maybe a 5th. Zajac 50% retained will get a 3rd and 5th or similar since that's what Staal got. Vatanen may get you more, but its hard to say

How is it not a buyers market? Its the complete opposite imo. Most of the would-be buyers are up against the cap (which is flat) and there are tons of teams wanting to move out contracts. Plus with the expansion draft coming up players with term are worth less since they require a protection slot

Why do you think so? Maybe he's ok for you, but I doubt he makes it over any of the kids. We need top 4 LD, no 7th D, we've got plenty of those.

The NHL doesn't approve WSH going 2.5M over the cap.

Every year there are reliable defensive d-men that fetch a 2nd (Greene, Dillon, Scandella last year). Kulikov has been fantastic by any standard. Maybe it’s not your team, but someone will likely pay a 2nd for him.

Kulikov has been very solid for the Devils. Greene was traded for a second last year. I think Kulikov would get the same.

Just say you don’t watch the Devils, that’s fine, no one would blame you. But Kulikov’s underlying stats are as follows

CF % - 55%
XG% - 54%
SCF%- 53%
HDCF and HDGF 52%

So you have a guy with a 1.2 million dollar cap hit generating more chances, expected goals, scoring chances, high danger chances and high danger goals then he gives up. He’s not a perfect player by any means but he’s been really good this season. Those guys usually fetch a 2 or a 3 at the deadline.

Whats with Bellows, healthy scratch I think? I read where he takes some bad penalties, but also he's a sniper. What's the book on him?

Healthy scratch because trotz is terrible at handling young players - bellows doesn’t take bad penalties , he’s just average defensively which isn’t good enough for trotz. Bellows has a high end IQ inside the ozone and elite shot. He’s at his best when he’s playing off of a talented passing center. Probably tops out as a 25 G - 15 A 2nd liner

Yeah I don't. Only when they play the bruins. Kulikov has just never stuck out to me as a top 4 type guy. What I got from the explanation is that he's a good two way dman. Am I right in saying that? Also, didn't Greene have a huge cap hit, or am I dreaming?

Yeah I read conflicting stuff when reading about him on Dobber etc. Tritz is demanding that way, but Isles are tough to play against
How available do you think he is this TDL?

More of a defensive d-man.
Great at stopping the rush, turning puck around.
Paired with Subban, who can freelance a bit, and covers for him well.
I’d think a team that has more offensive RHD that they want to push forward by pairing with Kulikov makes sense.

Trotz makes a lot of reckless decisions - gets bailed out by goaltending and guys like wahlstrom/Beauvillier and still ends up doubling down on gritty 4th liners.

I would think he’s available. He shouldn’t be but trotz doesn’t trust him so might as well get something for him.

So he is good. The only problem is where he fits on the bruins. I don't think he should get first line minutes with McAvoy. Carlo is a defensive dman, so no fit with him either. Could fit with Clifton on the third pair, but I'd hope Miller is back. Tough fit for the bruins.

Agree. Murray better fit probably.
Or Sami Vatanen as 6/7 insurance option (plays both sides)
Both would be lesser pick (3rd if we are lucky, 4th or 5th more likely).

Or another wild idea. Take both Kulikov and Subban as pair.

I like the idea, but idk if we'd be able to afford subbans cap hit, as well as keeping Carlo on pairing 2. I honestly don't know, is subban good enough to bump Carlo down?

Devils eat half the salary. Subban at $4.5m.
