Team: 2020-21 Boston Bruins
Initial Creation Date: Apr. 5, 2021
Published: Apr. 6, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Screw the future, the Bruins window is finally closing and this team needs to make a run before it slams shut. The biggest issue in Boston this year has been scoring, but adding two premiere snipers and a formerly elite offensive defenseman should help. The team will need to rely on its systems to keep the puck out of the net, but this blue line should be much better at transitioning the puck up the ice when given the opportunity. Adding a 4th d-man with term messes with the Bruins' expansion draft plans, so they'll either need to stomach the loss of an important player or make a trade with Seattle to keep this group together. I think that these few trades give the Bruins a much better shot at beating the Islanders in the playoffs and at least moving on to the divisional finals--whether they can beat Tampa Bay or Colorado is questionable, but certainly not impossible.
Trades
1.
BOS
  1. Gostisbehere, Shayne
Additional Details:
Gostisbehere recently passed through waivers, proving that no one is willing to take on his full salary without sending any money the other way. In this trade, the Bruins essentially get Gostisbehere for free, but the Flyers save $1.75M each of the next three seasons.
2.
BOS
  1. Palmieri, Kyle ($2,325,000 retained)
Additional Details:
Adding Gostisbehere to the blue line makes one of Lauzon or Zboril expendable, and imo Zboril has been much better this season. Lauzon+2nd may seem like a steep price, but the Bruins will need to outbid multiple teams in order to secure Palmieri's services.
NJD
  1. Lauzon, Jérémy
  2. 2022 2nd round pick (BOS)
3.
BOS
  1. Hoffman, Mike ($2,000,000 retained)
Additional Details:
The Blues recently slipped behind San Jose and into 6th place in the West division--their best option is to sell. The Bruins pick up another great scorer who is a pending UFA, in exchange for a young forward who still has some potential as well as a 2nd.
STL
  1. Bjork, Anders
  2. 2021 2nd round pick (BOS)
4.
BOS
  1. Gaudette, Adam
  2. Virtanen, Jake
Additional Details:
While Ritchie has played very well this year, he's a pending RFA and the contract he can reasonably ask for based on his current production is not one that he's going to live up to in the future. The Bruins sell high and add a couple of young forwards--one who is from Massachusetts and played college hockey in Boston, and another whose shooting talent could lead to a breakout in a new environment.
VAN
  1. Ritchie, Nick
  2. 2021 6th round pick (BOS)

Gaudette has COVID. I wouldn't think that any team would want to touch him with a 10-foot pole. All jokes aside though, all the best to the Canucks players.

I honestly dont think the Bruins have enticing enough assets to make a high profile deal with NJD.

I dont think you understand why Ghost went on waivers and went unclaimed, but no way does Philly make that deal.
