I don't like that St. Louis trade. The value doesn't feel bad, I just don't see how it moves the needle forward enough on the rebuild to part with Mantha. Sure, Dunn is a good piece and he's young enough to get better, but are we CONVINCED he's a legit #1 defenseman? I just don't see the point in giving up Mantha for a high cost player, when we could get higher ceiling prospects and picks that might turn into way more. Sure, they might not pan out as well, but in a rebuild, I'd rather have the lotto ticket(s).

I understand your view. To be honest I just dont see Mantha being that good. Look at his production. It is just not that great. He has great potential but i dont think Detroit is good fit for him. And regarding Dunn i think there are plenty of LHD in the pipe that can become #1 d-man. Detroit is stacked at LHD in the pipe, but bringing him in now will also ease the transition for some of the prospects.

Id be shocked to see them spend anything in free agency in the offseason.

No, he’ll go top 5 as he’s the top center in the draft and has a great floor.

I can understand that not everyone likes Mo but how does Dunn ease the transition as he’s never carried the load. Why not try and get a guy like Hammer? I also don’t think we have a 1LD in our pipeline currently. Johansson looks good but most predict him as a 2LD, Wallinder is a extremely raw, McIsaac’s shoulders are a major concern plus he doesn’t have the offensive upside for top pairing, and Cholowski’s defensive game leaves a lot desired. Comparing Mo’s production this year isn’t a great indication as Blashill changed into low event hockey which means less scoring chances plus they haven’t played for an extensive amount of time.

You don't give up a potential 40 goal scorer for someone to bridge the gap. Mantha started slow but has been on a tear for the last 3 weeks and his advanced stats are off the charts in that time. Regardless of him being a fit here or not, we could get a better return if we decide to trade him.

Well i think we just value Mantha very different and i understand that he is valued very high for some still. Let’s agree to disagree.

Considering that he's 26, has health issues and his career high is 25G and 48P, I think that's a fair return. Maybe it gets up to Dunn and 2nd but not much more than that.

I said in my first reply that the value was fair. It's not about that, it's about what is best for the rebuild and taking a gamble on Mantha's ceiling is worth more than that return to the rebuild, specifically. If they decide to move Mantha, I would rather they move him for futures, than high cost returns, such as Dunn. An Isles fan posted an offer of Salo, Bellows and a 1st that I thought made a lot more sense if we were going to move him.

VAN will buy out Eriksson before packaging a 1st to rid the contract, especially if there’s a chance the pick could be a lottery pick.

VAN isn't making the playoffs this year, or likely next, and they didn’t have a 1st or 2nd last year, so the need the prospects and future ECL’s.

A buyout at the end of this season would cost VAN 4mil cap penalty this season and 1 next.

If the wings were ever offered that I'd jump on it, considering that it will be a later 1st. I don't know for sure but I think that Mantha wants to move on.

What health issues? He’s broken a finger & rib from fighting/body slammed but nothing with his knee/back.

I thought he had a back issue in the past, my mistake.

The only injury history I’m worried about for current young-ish Detroit players is Fabbri’s knees.
