What Calgarys pending UFAs are worth

Created by: sensonfire

Description
This is a follow up to my post about the Ottawa Senators on March 22nd titled "WHAT OUR PENDING UFAS ARE WORTH IF WE RETAIN AT 50"

The Flames are going to miss the playoffs and for that reason, they should be sellers.

Coach Sutter hinted at a post-game press conference recently that there might be a "conditioning" issue for some of the players on the team and it has forced him to cut back their ice time, particularly in the last few games against the Leafs.

If a lack of conditioning is an issue that is creeping in anywhere, then that's a very serious problem :(

It will affect Calgary's options for the trade deadline as well as how low the Flames finish in the standings this season.

The return in each trade that is seen here is what Calgary would get if the other team was being generous.

For some of our pending UFAs, Calgary is probably better off either re-signing them to an extension or letting them walk at the end of the season.

Before you scream in the comments "WE DON'T WANT HIM" or "HE'S NOT EVEN WORTH A BAG OF PUCKS", please note that I only use your team as an illustrative example and in some cases, already point out that such a player is of little or no value.

Have fun!!! :D

Rittich could pull more than a 5th round pick based on his performance last year. I think he could get a solid 2nd or 3rd if I'm being honest. He's a decent/bad starter but he would make a great backup.

You can point to the Flames problems if last night was an example. 2.4m Mangiapane and 795,000 Ritchie were their two best forwards.

I also know your point was UFAs, but Bennett should really be moved. Probably gets you more than anyone else.

When evaluating Rittich's trade value, I looked at the Devan Dubnyk trade to San Jose and the Keith Kinkaid trade to Columbus.

Dubnyk and Kinkaid were both top3 worst G in the league at the time of trade/that season. Rittich has been slightly below-average. I could see a mid-4th at least (if he's the backup). 5th like you did if he's the 3rd G.

He was placed on waivers twice this year and went unclaimed on both occasions.

He's been up and down from the taxi squad.

This season, he was placed on LTIR for almost a whole month.

He's turning 35 this year and his cap hit/salary is 3.125 million.

He was placed on waivers because no one was taking him at that cap hit early in the season.

He hasn't been a healthy scratch once this season and is only on the taxi squad on days the Flames dont play so the team can accrue cap space.

He was place on LTIR because he broke his thumb...

His age doesnt matter as a rental, and the cap hit doesnt matter that much if Calgary takes back an inferior player with a cap hit.

I think he fetches a 3rd at the deadline
