Best Guess for Hextalls First Rodeo

Description
Here is my crack at the 2021 TDL - let me know your thoughts!

Pettersson Trade - I don't really love the idea of moving Pettersson just to move him, but I feel Winnipeg is in the market for a defensemen and a 3rd is very reasonable. You can save Pettersson for a larger package, but I don't expect Hextall to make a big move right now or even this summer.

Laughton Trade - I already know that Flyers fans would be fuming at seeing this, but he is the ideal 3C for this team and matches with what Burkey & Hextall said about adding tougher players. Upgrades to next year's 2nd round pick if he resigns here. He is not exempt from the Expansion Draft, so he, ZAR or Zucker would be left exposed. Who cares, let's get crazy.

Giving up a 2nd/3rd next year but getting the third back for this year seems like a win. Need to start getting some prospects back in the cupboard and we have a full draft slate for next year.

I would prefer to avoid guys like Bennett or Reinhart atleast for right now. Buyers market would help but I don't think those are the missing pieces. Build out the 3rd line and you have 4 lines that can fly. A player I would also love on this team is Getzlaf, but I don't see it happening.

**Also leaving out the 8 injuries that will occur between now and the Trade Deadline**

  2. 2021 3rd round pick (WPG)
Additional Details:

WPG
  1. Pettersson, Marcus
Additional Details:
Pettersson still young, reasonably priced player and already better than Forbort + Beaulieu. Good chance Heinola jumps him next year, but good insurance in case he isn't able to jump in top4.

rodrigues is not a top line forward if anything he is a fourth line maybe third. thats what irritates me they put him on the top line and he just is not skilled enough to play there. i think gaudreau deserves a spot in the lineup when completely healthy

Pettersson is not reasonably priced for a number 5-6 guy.

The Jets would looking to add depth not make a lateral move. So, they won't trade Forbort for Pettersson.

I agree that it's still the old boys club who thinks you can't trade to a rival but the facts are that the Flyers are cooked, Freidman said they aren't close on a contract (can obviously change that course) and Fletcher used to work for Pittsburgh / Hextall long time Flyer. I don't see Laughton getting more than a 2nd rounder because if you have to offer a first, why not just go for a Forsberg or a Reinhart?

I know he hasn't done much but it opens the door for Rust & Kapanen to move around the middle 6, which makes a team much more lethal. Crosby can will players to be functional top6 players, and I think rodrigues has the speed and shot to tread water up there.

I don't see it as a lateral move as Pettersson is a top4 player on this team and is only 24 - and I don't sense the need to send Forbot back if the Jets want depth rather than losing a dman. Penguins have enough options at LD, so it can be for a pick or two instead.

I can totally see why some teams wouldn't be able to add a $4m player in the current market, however

Don't disagree with that at all (Hello Matt Matheson) but Pettersson has been good for the Penguins the past 2 seasons in his top4 role. It would really come down to if Heinola is ready to play top4 next year, which I don't see why he wouldn't be able to unless he gets injured

No way does Laughton get a low 3rd and 5th, and especially not from PIT.

What are you expecting for him? Hall is priced at a 1st round pick, I don't see any team paying that for Laughton (which is fine). I also stated that the 3rd is a conditional to a 2nd if he resigns.

Hall is sucking it up and is still at least a 4mil cap hit. Laughton might come for as low as 1.2 and is the kind of guy that does everything in the playoffs, has grit/physicality/two way/2 positions, and will fit in. Hall is definitely the better player, but right now theres alot more teams wanting (and affording) laughton. In all honesty, I think he gets a 2nd, no conditions and probably a 4th for the retention. Youre also looking at probable low round picks.

Alot for a short term rental, but its about demand and performance and Laughton (on a career year pt pace over 82 games) is wanted by alot of the clubs going into the playoffs.
