Lou gets his guys. It’s a more than fair trade in a normal year, although I have a feeling this might be the only 1st traded this deadline (at least for a rental).

NYI gets the best forward available for a 1st round pick and also picks up a bottom 6 center in the process. Good deal for both sides

In a major buyers market NJ still got a 1st. Didn't look like anyone else was offering that, so good for them.

The best part of this trade though is Zajac's inclusion.
I genuinely believe that Lou's memory started going around 2012 and the only players he can remember are the devils from that year. He keeps trying to trade for them. I just find it funny

As for the trade, a possible 20-30 pick in a weak draft with two AHLers for two seasoned veterans half-retained. The Islanders win.

Also worth noting Zajac has only played for the NJD (over 1000 games), pretty remarkable. Joins Andy Greene who played over 900 with NJD.

Think the Devils could've shaken another asset or two out of Long Island but it's a decent trade.

Kind of a bad trade for the Devils I feel. Sure they got a 1st for 2 guys on expiring deals, but they're both good players with one a clear top liner. 2 AHLers just doesn't feel enough.

In terms of who wins this, I think it's got to be the Islanders. They get 2 good forwards for basically a 1st and some AHLers, plus a mid round pick. Really helps out their forward depth.

Edit: I think the Devil's mistake was not trading Palmieri last year. Based on the rumored package they probably could have got a 1st and a couple of B tier things (2nd/Prospect) for just Palmieri. Plus another ~2nd for Zajac this year. I don't think it will necessarily hurt them too much in the long run though.
