Just not a sensible trade going into a playoff run for the Oil. More important to have depth on D than at forward. Value is not insanely wrong, love Formenton as a potential McD winger, and Paul is an upgrade on any 3rd liner the Oilers have, but Bear and Jones gone means the Oil are one D injury away from having Theodor Lennstrom in their playoff lineup, and playing green Dmen Lagesson and Bouchard every night without legitimate backup. Also, Bear is the only RHD with significant experience the Oil have signed going into next year so...yikes, huge risk.

I'm not in love with that Edmonton trade. The addition of Bear and Jones pretty much blocks JBD and Brannstrom from playing next year and if you're looking to stabilize our D there are far better UFA options you can do short term contracts with who will do that AND be better mentors for JBD, Brannstrom and Sanderson. I would gladly overpay for 2 years of Alec Martinez - he's the PERFECT guy to target and we could easily benefit having him even he costs $4 - 4.5M.
And if Edmonton wants to win NOW they probably aren't looking to give up 2 roster D men if the pieces coming back are late '22 2nd and a guy who's played 6 NHL games this year. They'd be eyeing Dzingel, Tierney, Gudbranson...
