I haven't really liked how Merkley has played this year. But I want him to go unclaimed so he can be Kraken bait.

13-23-Merkley is better than 13-23-24 so

Not skilled enough for top-6 center, not heavy enough for checking line center.
He has some offensive chops and throws his little body around.
But seems to me to be 1C for AHL team.

    Absolutely

    100%

Looked very dynamic in the NHL so far this year

Career NHLe rates project a middle six F

Small sample size but it's kinda wild that in 1/3 of the games so far he has almost outscored McLeod, Bastian *and* Johnsson with similar or less TOI

The 'heavy' part of that is archaic

Especially in this current era checkers need skating, awareness, etc. in order to keep up with scorers

I disagree on the skill part of that I mean his footwork and puck control are both so crisp and his reaction speed is at the level needed to thrive in the NHL

Why not? Calgary boy who is a right shot. I can imagine anybody is better than Ritchie for that top line.

I don't mean his body weight...
...I mean his ability to slow the rush.
    Opponents go right through him.

They absolutely should pick him up. Pick up the free nickel off the ground and see if it turns into a loonie.
