Created by: TMLBRIAN
Team: 2020-21 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: Apr. 8, 2021
Published: Apr. 8, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
I made a similar one to this yesterday. I got Oleksiak instead of Zadorov in that one.

Just need depth pieces for the long run. This is what I think they will do. Or something on these lines.

Thoughts?

Glad you didn't trade any current Leafs for depth players. Zadorov still has a few years of control, think the Hawks would like more.

They've literally been telling us for months they want another top 6/7 forward.

I don't see any reason not to believe them, and i think that's still the priority.

No one is getting Zadorov for a 3rd rounder... it would take a 2nd + decent prospect or a late first and some salad coming back. Stan would look awful going from Saad to Zadorov to a 3rd rounder. Big Z has also been pretty serviceable even with all the penalties, would require an overpayment

Oh I thought he was a UFA not an RFA at seasons end! My bad! That fully changes his value for sure! Thanks team smile I will go back to the drawing board.

They have adjusted that over the past few days with the emergence of Galchenyuk. They said they will still look but it is a lot lower of a priority than it was before.

I based the value off the Staal trade. Stall got a 5th and a 3rd with the 50% retention. Figured Glendending wouldn't be as valuable hence the 6th and 4th with the retention. I know you mentioned yesterday that Detroit would want to keep their retains on bigger contracts. But I just don't see many other guys on their team that other teams would want, even with the retain.

Bernier, Helm, Nemeth and even Staal could all serve a role on a team making a run and all of them have expiring deals, making them even more attractive as a rental. The reports are that there is going to be a bidding war for Glendening and if we don't get a good return for him, we might as well just keep him, as he's a great leader and his teammates love him.

I'd rather retain on Staal and only get a 5th, than retain on Glendening and get a 4th. The drop off of players that make the NHL after the 3rd round is significant and we already have a logjam of "what if" prospects. At that point, just keep Glenny and re-sign him.

Dubas most recent quote on the subject.

"I think the emergence of Galchenyuk playing with John and William, both in terms of the fact he’s produced a little bit but in terms of how hard he’s playing and the effectiveness that he’s brought to the group, I think certainly reduces the urgency,” Dubas said.

“But with all that said, if we can do something that we think is going to be a good fit in the locker room and on the ice, I think we would still very openly explore that.’’

Lebrun's take on that his guesses would be Palmieri (article was a couple of days ago), Foligno, or maybe a Laughton. All of those guys would still be in the top 6/7 for the Leafs (all >>>> Glendening).

So I really don't think their top priority has changed at all.

IMO they want Hyman 2.0. Someone that can play with M & M on the top line, so Hyman can carry that checking line. Or they can replace Simmonds on that checking line, and improve that trio.

They've spent the entire year trying to build a decent checking line, so they can roll 2 lines against the other teams best (L1 & L3). I really don't see them completely abandoning that plan once games really start to mean something.
