One TDL Trade to Rule Them All

Created by: TMLBRIAN
Team: 2020-21 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: Apr. 8, 2021
Published: Apr. 8, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Leafs add depth and lose no roster players.

Glendening would be a perfect 4th liner or 13th forward. Nemeth would be a perfect 6-7 dman.

Gives them extra protection for their potential long playoff run.

I am just curious why the Leafs would trade for a defenceman that would be their seventh and just take up cap space.

Depth. Takes like 10 + dman for a Stanley cup normally. Teams do this type of thing on a regular basis at the TDL. Add a few guys for the long run.

Dubas mentioned this point himself a few days back in an interview.

My thoughts are Detroit fans will be incoming saying both players are worth 2nd rounders and good prospects because they always think that.

Detroit fan here. I don't hate it. Might ask for the 4th to be a 3rd since we're retaining on 2 guys though.

It’s almost like 30+ million to three players is the real problem:/

They are literally in first place in the league right now. This team has virtually no holes in it.... Try again.

North division, low key TOR was excited to not play BOS, seriously CHI beat EDM in the bubble and their second in the North. Also Jack Campbell is on fire so have to imagine he cools off at some point just hope it’s before the playoffs.

...with games in hand. By PT %, they are literally the 3rd place team in the league right now.

You're $1.3M in the hole cap wise. You're going to have to move a contract off the team to make this work.

Still proves the point that they are one of the top 5-6 teams in the league. So the 30m from 3 players isn't actually killing them.

Cap is fine in this circumstance. They would be sending players to their taxi squad as they have been doing all year when they aren't playing. I think it was Lebrun who said leafs could pull off more cap then this and be fine.

Why would you go after glendening? Spezza is already providing everything he brings.

TML fans say year in and year out that they're the best in the league, then choke in the playoffs. So what is it? What breaks them as soon as the playoffs start?

I don't buy that the Canadian division is much worse than others. Winnipeg, Edmonton and Montreal are all good teams. Van and Calgary are okay also. Having Boston and Tampa in their normal division has always been awful. but the Canadian division is just fine in terms of difficulty.

If you don't see that the Leafs are a really good team, you are just blind. There are a lot of other solid teams in the league though. Toronto is still top 5-6.

extra depth. Glendening doesn't replace Spezza in here. He may even be 13th forward.

I didn't claim that they were the best in the league... I said they were top 5-6. They are amongst the best. Very few rational people would argue against that.

Their stars were super young and they have better complimentary pieces this year. But they still need to go and do it in the playoffs. Which they haven't done in the past.

Teams need 8-9 defence to make a playoff push.

If Edmonton is second you play Winnipeg or the Canadiens worry about beating them first. Winnipeg especially is a damn good playoff team.
