Florida wins big here just because they got rid of Connolly's cap hit.

Borgstrom is a decent prospect, but he already left Florida and was unlikely to come back.

This might be a win for both teams in the long future, but I'm saying Florida wins this hands down short term.

I like this for the Hawks. Connolly can be useful now that he’s out of Quenneville’s doghouse, hopefully he can return to his 20 goal form of last season. Borgstrom has a lot of upside, I can’t wait to see him back in the NHL.

Ok deal for Florida. They traded a guy who wouldn’t play for them and a cap dump for 2 depth pieces, although this seems like it’s too motivated by actual money, since they don’t need cap space right now.

This is the first time the hawks have been on this side of the cap deals. I think we win this one going away.

Great for Florida because they dump Connolly and trade Borgstrom who needed a change of scenery. Wallmark is a good player, and should help Florida's bottom 6

I’ve always liked Borgstrom so I’m gonna give the edge to chicago. I also find it kinda funny Wallmark has gone to the Panthers two straight deadlines

The thing is the Panthers had no need to move Connolly. They would’ve been better off just moving Borgstrom on his own.

Whether Florida needed the space or not, Connolly is still a bad contract.

I think this is a fair deal. If you're a fan of the Panthers...Lucas Carlsson is a good player. I think he's better than Wallmark. He just didn't have a path forward on this team. Borgstrom is the most talented player in the deal though. We'll see. Seems like Stan will make another move though.

They are one of the few teams that could take on his full cap hit.

Yeah, but it’s not good asset management for the Panthers if they don’t need cap space. You can argue about whether it’s good for Chicago or not, but it’s clearly not good for the Panthers, because they lose a valuable asset while getting no benefit back.

I did not identify Chicago as a team with capspace to spare.

I think its more of a win for the blackhawks than it is for the Panthers. Connolly had success in the past and I bet he has a rebound with us. Stillman is fine but it seems like a downgrade from Carlsson. Borgstrom was a highly regarded prospect who can get another chance in NA.

Florida knows what theyre getting wit wallmark hopefully he finds success there. I was super excited when we signed wallmark, disappointed he didnt find a place here. Carlsson is a solid bottom pairing dman who can and should be an nhl main stay. He just wasnt getting the time he needs with our young d logjam.

I think the big win here is getting rid of 3.5mil of Connolly. Borgstrom could flip the switch and make this a Chicago W, but I really don't think there's much there tbh.

Florida gets valuable cap space and the Blackhawks get a low risk high reward prospect in Borgstrom. Minor but solid move for both teams.

Conveniently Florida has 4M in cap space. 50% of a certain someone's salary...

Florida got their cap relief, and Chicago got some good young prospects. All around good deal.

CHI Gets: Bottom 6er with bad contract, Borgstrom who was solid but will probably never pay in the NHL again, Riley Stillman who has middle-bottom pair D potential, and a 7th.

FLA Gets: A solid bottom 6 secondary scorer and most importantly Wallmark is a former Hurricane, and a decent current bottom pair defenseman, but is said to have top 4 potential.

So pretty much, Wallmark is like Connolly on a better contract and Carlsson is sort of just a better version of Stillman. Chicago gets Borgstrom and a 7th to try to make it closer, but FLA wins the trade at least for now.

Possibly an expiring Montour too as an Ekblad stand-in.

Well after this trade they still have $20 million in cap room with Toews, Seabrook, Shaw, and Smith on LTIR.
