NJDs 21-22

Created by: FireShero
Team: 2021-22 New Jersey Devils
Initial Creation Date: Apr. 8, 2021
Published: Apr. 8, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
EDM gets out of their last bad contract and two guys for the playoffs, NJD get another 1st.

Fleury has played great this year but so has Lehner, trade gives VGK $7,000,000 to make a move, and Dell as a cheap goalie option. NJD get Fleury as a role model for Blackwood and Fitz and Fleury have worked together from their time in PIT.

VAN gets some cap space, NJD take a chance on Virtanen rebounding.

Brought back Kulikov and signed Gudbranson for PK/ veteran leadership as most of this team is under 27.

Too much for Kulikov and Gudbranson. You shouldn't sign Gudbranson. Virtanen is also not a top6 player.

I dont mind the idea of Ryan Murray. I dont think Gusev is much better than what edmonton has in Tyler ennis and Kahun.

I dont think Vegas trades Fluery. He's been great and Lehner is AWOL again.

    MAF is a Vezina candidate.
Vegas would be foolish to just give him away

Kulikov contract will be $4m x 3 years I’d think.
    Similar to Shattenkirk’s deal.

I threw in the Devils 3rd with Murray/ Gusev, what about the Islanders 2nd?

Yeah Gusev and Murray together aren't worth too much, most of the value I think is getting rid of Neal's contract. I saw Murray/ Gusev as playoff depth for EDM that probably walk in free agency.

Fair enough, I'm still stuck on all the rumours from the summer saying Fleury was going to get traded/ him being a cap dump. My major thought was Vegas might to go in on Dougie Hamilton or somebody in free agency and need to move his cap hit.

I feel like Gudbranson is always going to get overpaid because of his size and his "intangibles"; been an assistant captain pretty much everywhere. Thought he would make a good PKer and be a leader since most of this team is under 25-27. Kulikov I overpayed for a shorter length. Nobody on the Devils outside of Hughes will need a major raise in the 2 years and the Devils have the cap to pay it.

As for Virtanen just a gamble really, with Palmieri gone the next RW righty is Merkley or Thompson. If Virtanen plays well he is still a RFA, if not they dont qualify him and he walks.

Always better to have a surplus of cap space than use it poorly. 3rd pair D are easy to find and with a flat cap, Devils could get two good 3rd pair D for under $2.5M each.

In a buy out, GM's are able to either front load or back load the buyout. So if you look at the buyout for Andrej Sekera with the oilers, Holland Front loaded the buyout so that he pays more in the first two years, and less in the last two. So instead of 8 Mill (2/3 of the total remaining contract value + remaining signing bonuses) spaced out over 4 years, the oilers front loaded the contract at 2.5 for the first two years, and for the last two they will pay less which gives them more cap space for the last two years (Next year and the year after) which is 1.5 for the last two. so instead of 2 mill x 4 he did 2.5 x 2 and 1.5 x 2.

Back loading would be the opposite, paying less in the front half of the buyout, and then more in the back half.

I don’t think they have that choice. It is all pre-determined by the contract and how much is paid via bonus vs via salary.

Not much point. Hold on to Neal for one more season and he's only 2mil x2. I'd think any trade to dump him would keep that in mind, so you're really only paying for one season at 5.7, and then the 2x2. Not really worth a first.

Although if that trade DID happen I wouldn't be upset, as long as we had a different trade or signing bringing in a 5mil left winger. If we did it just to do it, it would be dumb.

Man, I just looked to see what NJD have to sell, and your team is YOUNG
