This is why everyone who ever said "all the bad contracts are off the books in 2 years anyway" are total dummies

Don't forget his rumored NMC to protect him from Seattle.

$3.25M for a perennial 15-goal scorer who is defensively responsible hardly seems like an overpayment.

Bet you said the same with Loui, Myers, Roussell, and Beagle too huh.

Contracts like this are why guys like Toffoli walk.

Loui's deal was for a lot more than $3.25M and a lot longer than 3 years. Same with Myers.

Roussell and Beagle have never touched 15 goals in their careers. Pearson has hit 20 twice and 15 five times.

Those are hardly fair comparisons.

No, full NTC in the 1st year, 7-team no trade list in the 2nd, no protection in the third.

I'm not really a fan. It's probably a fair contract but letting Toffoli walk just to sign Pearson isn't a good look

Connolly got moved as a cap dump TODAY and they're similar players but Conno is a better goal scorer and is on a better contract. You will regret defending this a year from now. Vancouver needs to pay its top end talent and they just added yet another mediocre third liner

Not sure what would make you say Connolly is a better goal scorer. That's clearly not true, for this season or past seasons.

The cap hit is fine, and frankly the expansion draft protection is fine too, Canucks would have protected him anyways.

The two big problems are 1) the third year of the deal. Miller horvat and hoglander all expire in 2 years, Myers and Pearson will each still have one year left. That’s two contracts in the books taking up space when you need to re-sign top of the line up players

And 2) Canucks already have a bunch of bad contracts on the books for next season. This compounds an already existing problem.

I’m a big Pearson fan and I think a lot of fans are dumping on him right now for no reason. He has a career low shooting percentage and has been getting thrown to the wolves in tough matchups; he’s a better player than the stats show this season. That said, this contract is more than the Canucks can afford, and even it is fair market value, they would have been better off avoiding it. The final year is especially tough to swallow
