Kinda ok in a vacuum. I feel like the Canucks cap space maybe could have been used in a better way given their situation tho

Why. They have a gluttony of overpaid bottom sixers and while hes not one now, he could be by the end

Seems like a mistake, given how tight this offseason was going to be already. Pearson has taken a real step back this year, and Jim Benning has a bad track record with deals like this. Pettersson and Hughes will be really hard to fit, and bridging them at a lower cap hit would be really short sighted

Only thing it changes is there is an unprotected forward Seattle can take. It doesn't change they won't take Holtby short of a huge payment.

And that contract walks Pettersson into ufa...

Agreed, but I think signing Hughes to a bridge deal isn't the end of the world. His defensive game needs work, and a pricey long term deal for nothing but offense could also be an issue. See Karlsson, Erik & Subban, P.K.

Peterson long term has to happen, and the Pearson signing, barring a complete surprise I think may prevent that. He sees $9 million per imo..... on par with Aho given BC's tax rates.

in terms of value it isnt the worst but its going to screw their cap and theyre gonna regret it within a year. the 3M could go somewhere better and a player of pearsons caliber should have been cheaper

I see a lot of people really mad about the signing. I don’t think it’s that bad, probably a fair deal if it wasn’t a flat cap so maybe a slight overpay.

Poor signing. Not only is it a slight overpayment but they gave him expansion protection (where they could have used that spot to exploit an asset from another team), and the signing is going to likely force the Canucks to pay assists to rid a contract in order to sign Petterson / Hughes and ice a full roster.

I was a fan of the JB hiring when they announced it many years ago, as I thought someone as highly regarded as a scout would be a good person to rebuild the team, but JB has been an absolute disaster. He’s constantly contradicting himself and it makes one wonder if he actually has a plan or if he is just flying by the seat of his pants, he has to go!
