Who means more to their team? Hyman

Who do I trust to shut down a top center? Danault.

If forced to sign one of these tomorrow, who do I pick? Hyman.

Both of these players are product of extreme overrating by their respective media and fanbases, but generally are underrated outside of that.

I think Hyman continues to get better with time, but Danault is declining from a peak last year. His defensive ability got selke votes, but he has looked like a shell of that player this year. Certainly not worth the contract he was asking before this season. Hard to assess who is "better" as it depends on so much. They overlap in some areas, other areas one is more skilled than the other.

I personally think Hyman has a better future than Danault, though Danault has the best overall single season peak.

I'd say Hyman.

Phil Danault is a great defensive C, and his underlying offensive generation is very good, but he's so completely ineffective when it comes to finishing chances that it totally undercuts his effectiveness.

Hyman isn't the defensive player Danault is (really not even close), but he generates high danger offense extremely well, and what puts him ahead of Danault for me is that he actually finishes on chances. It's all well and good to generate high xG and stuff, but at the end of the day, actually scoring goals matters.

I'd say Danault simply because centers are more rare than wingers. Both player are great, but I think Hyman has been benefiting from playing with Matthews/Marner at some point. Give an edge to Danault defensive wise and an edge to Hyman offensive wise. That being said Hyman has been better this year than Danault

In the regular season, scoring goals only matters if the other team scores goals.

One has been called the most difficult player to play against in league by MacKinnon and the other hasn't.

This is a tough one. Danault is very good defensively and someone I'd trust to shut down a top line. But Hyman's just a bulldog, and he's such a unique player. I would probably pick Hyman by a slight margin, but there's really no wrong answer here

Really depends on if you value a good 2 way center or a good power forward winger more, I can’t decide between the 2 so I say tie

Want to say Hyman but I think its Danault.

I believe they're closer than people think. People get all pissy and bothered when Leafs fans praise their own players but Hyman makes a strong case for being their fifth best forward.

I feel like last year it was easily Danault, but his regression has caused Hyman to pass him. One guy continues to get better, the other has fallen off notably.

I consider it a tie, it really depends on which style of play you prefer

I look at Hyman and he makes everyone around him play better. He played great with Mikhaylev and Engvall on the third.

For me, easily Danault. Speedy center and Generates chances. One of the best two way players in the game right now.

It's apples and bowling balls as they're different players playing different positions, but Hyman is definitely more valuable to his team, imo. If Hyman leaves as a UFA it'll be very interesting to see what kind of numbers he puts up away from that potent Leafs offense. He's built a perfect niche in TOR.

Given that level of uncertainty, the fact that Danault is a really good defensive Center (Hyman is a Winger), and the importance of shutting down other teams' top Centers I have to say Danault is a better player. Tough call though.
